Hi all I had the Davinci surgery this week (last fri cancelled robot broke)I am home for the first day and other than gas pains no other problems. I am on no pain medication at all.I can now get up a lot easier than yesterday.Surgery was thursday . Catheter is a pain but not too bad. I was up and walking less than 1 hour after returning to my room. My diet was not restricted in any way after surgery ie if i wanted it I could eat it. Was given stool softeners so i didnt strain and had a BM today. I hope the rest of recovery is this good but have to wait for prostate biopsy to see if contained. Main advice so far keep the tip of penis well lubed and if it hurts dont do it. Just for the record this disease sucks. Praying daily for all cancer patients. Peace to you all Nick

Nick, I am honored to be the first to congratulate you on completion of your surgery. I too hope and pray that your recovery continues to be a non-issue. Extra prayers will be said for good results from the post surgery tests. I am not sure but I think I am next up. My surgery is scheduled with Dr. Menon on the 17th of this month.

Keep us posted on your progress and know that we are here for you. You and your family will certainly be in our prayers.

Sonny, good luck on your surgery. Hope your outcome is what you wish for. I am actually surprised at how little pain I have as I expected more. Cath out ext thursday. I use the large bag at night the small on during the day.I actually like the small one unlike most here. My bag is attached by a rubber band like thing and I have no problems with it. I will say a prayer for both you and your wife and think good positive thoughs for you. Ask any questions here you like and I will try to answer back ASAP..Good luck and God bless you Sonny

So glad to hear that you are on the mend now. Hang in there each day gets better. I'm 3 1/2 weeks post surgery and walk about 2.5 miles a day. Today my wife and I went on an outing with a picnic. Hiked in the Smoky mountains in Tennessee. The trail we did was .5 miles straight up to an observation tower then .5 miles back down. Hey not bad for a Cancer Survivor 3 1/2 weeks out of surgery!

It's all about healing now my friend. The healing will be taking place for months to come, so patience will be a virtue to carry. Very good to hear you are past the surgery and on the way to beating PC.

Larry, I'm glad that you are doing so well and walking 2.5 miles per day. Word of wisdom, which may or may not apply to you. If you feel any kind of tendonitis after your walk, slow down and take a brake. I also was walking about that long after 3 1/2 weeks, got a little tendonits in my right knee when walking some hills and ignored it. I kept walking, then went to the gym a week later and did leg lifts. When I got home the tendonitis was so bad I could not sleep. I'm still hobbling around almost 5 weeks later and they say it may be another few weeks before the tendonitis is gone. I feel like I'm back to week 1. Tendonitis pain is worse than any pain I had from the surgery.

I think this surgery tends to weaken the quads, or if not weaken them, make them really tight from lack of use. With all that swelling in the abdominal area, who knows what effect it has on the muscles south of there. If you start out too fast, it will feel fine until it doesn't. And when the tendons act up it's not a gradual thing, they go into instant rebellion and it's all over for a while.

Again, not advising you not to walk, walking is very good, just be sure to listen to your body.

Thanks for the advice! I have skipped a few days when I felt a little more sore then other times so yes I am listening to my body. I also have a problem with gout from time to time and it started acting up the other day. The doctor had given me med's to take for gout and after 2 days my foot was back to normal. I've been doing shorter walks yesterday and today but plan to do at least 2.5 miles in the morning.
