LUNG NODULE

Well, I have a couple more questions regarding that lung nodule that was reported on my CT scan in June. As I mentioned, it's 3mm (quite small according to my doctor). It is in the left lower lobe. My doctor just wants to recheck in 6 months. I asked, 'well should I be watching for symptoms'? He said, 'we're always watching for symptoms'. Seeing as how this was 2am at the time I didn't think to ask what I would be looking for. So. . .

I've been reading a little on this. Of course, I had to stop because it started to really bother me. It described a few different types of lung cancers - some slow growing, some quick. So I'm wondering why he wouldn't want to check sooner? And there really are no definitive symptoms until you're rather far along. The only symptom that really caught my eye was 'unexplained fatigue'. I have been extraordinarly tired lately. I did tell that to my family doctor AND my oncologist. I do have thyroid issues, and I have put on weight lately, so I am attributing that all to my thyroid - I hope.

Well, guess I'm just wondering if anyone can offer some insight. So many of you were helpful the last time I posted, and I truly did let this go. I don't think I would have given it any more thought if I weren't this tired.

Luv and hugs to you all!

Monika

Monika. I am sorry to hear this about the nodule. It does sound like your doctor is on top of things though and being open in his communication with you about things.

The only experience I have with any type of lung cancer relates to my Dad. Hi started off with extreme fatigue, huge weight loss and then shortness of breath. He had it in the lining of his left lung. He had many xrays and the doctors thought it might be pneumonia or pleurisy. Then they thought he had TB and started treating him for it. You are right, it is a very hard disease to diagnose. His appeared as shadows in his lung.

My Mom had scarring that either did not show up or was not caught on any of her scans until the last one. That was, they said, from having had severe pleursy when she was younger.

I am sorry you now have this added worry. Can they not do some type of needle biopsy or lab work for this? I know it is very small, so that is probably why the doctor wants to wait and see if anything changes in a few months. But that doesn't help the worry part of it.

I will be waiting right along with you and hoping for the best outcome. Hugs, Cindy

My Dr. is basically doing the same thing. When they did the CT scan of my pelvis and found my ovarian cancer they also found a spot on my lung small but they couldn't tell exactly what it was they did an x-ray hoping it would be easier to see but it wasn't. At first they were going to redue the CT doing the lungs instead of pelvis last time they just caught the bottom of the lung and they hoped by doing just the lung they could see it better. I asked him if it could be scarring from Pneumonia or Bronchitis since I have had them and he said that it didn't look like either one of those. I have never smoked so I have no idea what it could be which is why it worries me. But since they were doing chemo he decided not to redue CT, he said the chemo should take care of it if it was cancer. But he also told me at first that if it were cancer no matter how small it was it would be important since it would mean the cancer had spread past Stage 1. I don't know exactly what to think he now wants to just keep an eye on it.

    Keeping you in my prayers
