First whisper of trouble?

Hello folks. I track the board, but being a guy I don't always have much to contribute to many of the discussions. My wife Linda ended treatment for recurrence last Feb 08 and has been healthy this whole year and a half. Other than a hernia resulting from the surgeries, she's been active and looking ahead. But our most recent test two weeks ago showed a rise from 5-7 counts on CA-125 to this week's test at 21. This time my wife did not freak like last time when things really shot up, which was really rough, but the concern dug in of course. It's funny how this changes everything overnight. Well, not funny, but sad. They say no test again for four weeks and like several times before, we'll be thinking about it through our cherished little vacation time at end of month. Just weird. I see many of you are going through this. Wish you all well. Guess we wait to find out more, but the realities are often plain and troublesome. Chris.

    Hi Chris, it’s been awhile since you posted. Hooray for Linda to have a year and a half cancer free!!! Hopefully the rise is just due to an infection somewhere in Linda's body. Enjoy your vacation. Everyday is a blessing. I will be saying many prayers for Linda, she is a fighter. God Bless.

    Yes, it sure seems like there has been a trend here, hasn't it? Sorry to hear that Linda may be dealing with something again, but as always you're taking the right approach and moving on with life and enjoying the moment. At first I couldn't understand why my doctor didn't 'jump on' any increase in CA125 that I had. I felt like we should be doing weekly blood tests! But after my recurrance I realized that you could be going crazy chasing the numbers. And because it can change for lots of reasons, it became a 'wait and see' kind of thing. Of course, steady uphill climbs definitely required more testing. But your doctor is on it and either way, you will deal with the outcome should you have something to deal with.

    I hope you enjoy your vacation. Send our hugs and prayers to Linda, and to you also for your love for Linda and all that you do for her.

    She does have a hernia that needs attention at some point. Right next to her belly button. Really bugs her, and I'm kind of confused how an oncologist could miss the darn thing for so long. It's like everyone has tunnel vision! So I'm praying that's what's going on because her numbers have been steady. And thanks for your advice.

    I do check the posts but I also am sensitive that I often don't have anything to add because people here are so helpful.

    Keeping an eye on her
    Saundra: We go to the GO when we get back. Linda's noted some topsy turvy feelings in her stomach the last week following the postcard with the rise in CA-125. Nice, huh? Sometimes it is surprising how some of this gets handled. Not faulting the doctors but it seems like the process is always like pushing plates off a table to get attention in one direction or another.

    We've vowed to be proactive (if there is such a thing) this time around. Last time "delays" led to ascites and lots of other procedures (draining, etc) that cost her much energy and more fear. Mostly she's trying to be strong right now while we wait for another CA-125 test. I must say that sometimes I don't think there's the greatest "transfer" or comprehension of factors outside a doc's expertise. I've learned I have to push for answers.

    I guess we all have to push
    I've been calling three days for the CT results that the doctor said "don't let wait more than two days" and still do not have an answer. Stay after it. Saundra
