My liver biopsy results came in and my oncologist reported that it is not malignant. Yeah!!! and Praise God!!!! Now, I am starting the journey to BC survivorship. I started my first treatment of TAXOL and so far, no side effects. I was surprised it took 3 hrs. for the treatment, but it was not bad. I'm not sure I will be saying this 3 months from now. It looks like I'll be taking TAXOL for 3 months (once/week)and FAC (once/every two weeks). I have to make a decision on using a Port or Cathiter.... any suggestions? I'm leaning toward using the port.

    Great news rush!

I had a port put in because I have lousy veins. It really did help. I put a numbing cream on it about 1 hour before chemo and that prepared the port site for injection. I couldn't have done chemo without it.

    Good luck to you!

Very happy that your biopsy was negative!! Yay!!

I asked my onc if I should get a port. He said it was completely up to me. Didn't matter either way.
I asked the chemo nurses if I should get a port. And they practically yelled...YES!!!
So I did, and I haven't regretted it.

    Get a PORT!
Get a port! I am a real chicken when it comes to needles ... and I had to have people talk me into getting a port ...but thank goodness I finally listened because it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I had 12 weekly infusions of taxol/herceptin ... and I can't imagine going in there and being poked and prodded every week. The port made it a breeze. REALLY! They can do the blood draw with it ... and give you the taxol .. all with one little prick. And ... there's a GREAT cream ... EMLA ... that you can get a prescription for .. and you put a blob of that on your port spot an hour before your infusion appointment ... cover it with a bandage ... and by the time you get to the appointment the port spot will be numb and you won't feel a thing.

    I love my port!!!

    hugs.

I was given a choice because
I was given a choice because I had good veins and chose not to get the port. I hate surgery and kept thinking I'd turn into a Borg (that's from Star Trek). But that's me. Lots of others like the port and you have to decide for yourself. If I had to have chemo long term I might have changed my mind. I had 4 cycles before surgery and 4 after. Good luck.

and praise God! I am so happy for you. as for the port I never ever regretted having mine. It made eveything easier even all of those blood draws. I am still getting Herceptin for the rest of the year and am still glad i have my port.

    Great news, Rush!
Wonderful news on your liver biopsy!! That is definitely one to celebrate. As for a port, I got one. I have non-existant veins and it really helped and worked every time. I'm getting my port removed next Friday. It will be another step toward recovery. Good luck with your Taxol. Before you know it, it will be over.

So glad to hear no malignancy. The Taxol should be fairly easy and you don't always lose your hair. So good luck and let us know how it goes.
