My boy friend had his second biobsy. It was negative again, but his PSA is 12.3 |

Push the PSA issue with the doctor. Having a biopsy done twice with negative results, coupled with a normal sized prostate, seems to be relatively good news but I'm no expert. I did read somewhere that sexual activity prior to a PSA test can give a "false" high but you need to verify that with the doctor.
I'm sure somebody else on this board will have some really good input.
Hang in there!

High PSA negative biojpsy

I googled "prostate cancer high PSA negative biopsy" and a number of interesting articles came up. One in "ELSEVIER", a well respected scientific journal and another @ about high resonance targeted MRI. I know that dealing with the VA can be difficult because they have to follow procedure but if you can arm yourself with knowledge and present the Dr. with facts things could change. Good luck to you both. 4MYGUY

antibiotics
Sexual activity can elevate psa reading I was told. My Dr told me to abstain for a week before testing psa levels. Also did they put him on antibiotics after the first test , and before the second test? An infection can cause an elevated psa reading. Just a thought....

You didn't mention how many
You didn't mention how many samples they took in the biopsy's, 6, 12 or more? The less samples the less chance of finding the cancer.

Two biopsies also, similar but different ending. So far.
My case was similar until my second biopsy. I had a PSA of 8.6 folowed by a negative from a 12 sample biopsy. Six months later my PSA went to 13.4. At this point, my doctor was more concerned about my flow and put me on Flomax. He waited another four months before doing another biopsy. Twelve samples again, he did find cancer. I had radical prostectomy with a PSA of 13.6. My prostate was three times the normal size at the time of the first negative. Your case and mine may have some similar points but we're talking "early detection" here. I would be concerned about your boyfriends high PSA to the point where I would keep a watchful eye one it. I would also feel not finding anything in a 24 prod sample could just be very good news. Very good also that his prostate is of a normal size. Like some of the other posts, maybe other things in his life are creating a higher PSA. Stay concerned but also be optimistic.

PSA
I had a PSA of 1.8 and had been on meds for enlarged prostate with the VA for over a year. I just had my yearly physical and they said i was fine. Now , 4 months later i had a mandatory physical for medicare and i had cancer of the prostate. It was contained and i had it remover.
I don't trust the VA any more. Maybe you might want to get another opinion and don't trust the PSA either.
