Diagnosed this month

I was diagnosed earlier this month with 1 of 12 cores gleason 7, one other suspicious. My psa was 5 prior to the diagnosis. I am leaning towards robotic surgery and I have met a surgeon that has performed over 3000 surgeries and I am very comfortable with him doing the surgery if that is my final decision.

Thank you to all of you on this message board for sharing your experiences and information. I have a follow-up visit with my local urologist tomorrow and feel that I will be very well prepared, and equipped to ask all of the essential questions.

    Surgeon information
The surgeon’s name is Patel with the Global Robotics Institute at Florida Hospital, Celebration Florida. I was impressed with the facilities, staff and organization. He has a good website, very informative.

Hello nb, and welcome. 3000, wow , sounds like he has done a few. My surgeon has performed only a few hundred, but I was the most comfortable with him and his partner. That and I felt he would take the time, I needed, and not rush thru as a routine surgery. I have been post-op 9 days now, and have had 2 erections already. The cath is still in, very uncomfortable, but hey, it seems like it might still be working. He told me he was able to save the nerves from both sides, so I am staying very positive. I know I still have a battle ahead of me, one day at a time.

That's great he has done so many. I was told by my local surgeon If I wanted robotic to get someone that has done lots of them! Sounds like you found the man. I am counting down the days till I meet the dr with the robotic experience at vanderbilt in Nashville, tn.

I have heard many people tell me that he is one of the best.

    Jim,
Great news on the erections! I'm sure that is a relief from your mind!
Did they do nerve sparing? Both sides? One Side? What was your exact numbers? I know I've seen them in another post.
