Aloha from Hawaii,
Anne is a cancer survivor for ten years now. She is under going treatment again. Anne has been on Hormone treatment for about 4 months now but it looks like her counts are going up and she might have to do chemo again. She'll have to get a port again because the nurses said her veins wouldn't be able to handle the IV.
Thats just a little about Anne. The real reason I'm posting this is because we have filed a Discrimination act with the EEOC(Equal Employment Opportunity commision) against Anne's employer and was wondering if any one has gone through this.I have been reading acticles on the web about The ADA (American Disabilities Act) & Cancer and have learned quite a bit. We will be going into mediation on Wed. the 6th. Let us know if you have any tips

    Hello and Welcome
Anne and Stewart, I am sorry to hear that Ann may need treatment again. I do not know much about the ADA in reference to cancer but am aware that the ACS has advocates for survivors.
That is a resource to check also, if you have not already.

I wish I could be more help. Others here may have tips to share. I just wanted to welcome you although I am sorry for the reason. My best wishes to Ann with the treatment and with mediation on Wednesday.

    Welcome
Thanks to the powers that be at leaset now the ADA recognizes breast cancer as a life altering event. There is a womens group in NY that can provide more info to you and as soon as my brain kicks in today I'll send you a link. In the mean time hang in there, they like to wear you down. Bad enough you have to fight the beast again but then you have an act designed to help you that can do more harm(mentally & physically)just trying to use it. Robin

i am on disability now from
i am on disability now from breast cancer. i had to have my onc and a psychiatrist fill out forms for the disability.if you are unable to resume the work that you did before the illness then you qualify for disability. maybe every state is different, i don't know.it takes forever but it does happen. the disability is more than social security if you apply for it before you are 66 and would get the full benefit. so in essence i am getting the same amount had i retired at 66. i was only 62 when this thing started. i don't think i have given you anything that you probably don't already know. be patient and good luck.peggy

Aloha from the mainland, let me tell you what happened to me 6 six year's ago. I had a problem with my employer who was not happy with the fact that due to the lymphedema in my arm and the fact that it is severe nerve damage due to rads I was only able to work a 6 hour day. My employer wanted to demote me from my mgmt. position. Human resources was called in and once my records were all researched the entire bruhaha was dropped. As a matter of fact the mgr. who had started the entire thing had to go to training on the subject. Sadly two years later the company restructured itself and I ended up being laid off along with 400 other people. I have not been able to find work since then and am currently on disability since no one will hire someone who has had cancer three times and has physical limitations due to previous cancer treatments. I am not sure if this was helpful, but it is my only expierence with ADA.

    Sincerely,

    RE

    Aloha, and welcome!
Anne - I'm so sorry for your current health setback. I'll hope that this round of treatment will also provide you with many, many years of additional survivorship.

To both of you - best of luck with the upcoming mediation. How unfortunate to have to deal with THAT on top of serious illness.

    Kind regards, Susan

Wishing you both success as you go into mediation, and my very best to Anne as she steels herself for another round of chemo. My beloved Moopy just finished her sixth (and final) round of TAC, and the mere idea of ever having to do it again makes us both shiver. God bless you both!
