Cysts anyone?

Hi everyone,
Has anyone had any trouble with abdominal cysts following OC surgery? I just had my first "post chemo" checkup. My CA-125 was great at 4.9 (very happy about that!), but I have a 4.4 x 3 cm cyst in my lower abdomen that wasn't there in December. It's were my right ovary would be if I still had one. My onc. isn't sure what it is. I've had a CT and an ultrasound, but other than size, they didn't tell much. She now wants me to go to a gyno. onc. to find out more. I'm guessing that it will have to come out either way, but I'm not quite as worried with the low marker number. It sure formed fast though.

    Hi Colleen, I have a cyst in my pelvic area along with the tumors, I am assuming it isn't cancer as they don't say cancer or implants or metastis. I don't think they usually do surgery on cysts but could be wrong. I hope that is all it is for you. Hugs Bonnie

    cyst on adrenal gland
    I have a cyst on my adrenal gland. They will be removing it, as well as the entire gland. I think with cysts it all depends on the size. I think they tend to remove anything bigger than 2.5 inches.

    I had to wait for chemo to be over before they could do anything about it, though. They said 5 weeks, which will be next week. I see the doctor then to discuss the surgery.

    I have an appointment with a gyno onc next week, so I'll find out more then. It's a 3+ hour drive, so I'm not looking forward to that. (Bonnie, I'm going to the Women's Health Center at the U.) Right now it's pretty painful, but I don't know how much is that, or how much is the arthritis they found in my lower back. They did a MRI to see why things were hurting so much (they wanted to make sure nothing had spread to the bones), and called with a "well, it's kind of good news". It's always something!

    IN Minnesota?
    Colleen, you are in Minnesota.. the WHC at fairview university in the mpls? If so small world, that is where I dr at. Who is the dr you are seeing? They are all great docs there, a few of the newer ones I dont' know.

    So now where are you at? I am in central Mn 25 miles north of princeton.

    I don't have any information re: the cyst but will be very interested to find out what you find out. I used to have cysts on my ovaries when I was a teenager and they would burst and cause pain. I wish there was an easy way to "know" for sure. Take good care and I'll wait to see what you find out. Hugs!

    We live in Battle Lake, it's in west central MN about 1/2 way between Alexandria and Fargo/Moorhead. I'll be seeing Dr. Patricia Judson at the WHC. I've never seen anyone there before, so hopefully they're nice. Thanks for the hugs and prayers!

    No cysts for me, either. But if the CA 125 is a good marker for you, I would not worry. Probably just a sack of fluid of no consequence. Do have to check these things out, though. I have a hip that hurts when I walk long distances and get up from sitting for an hour, but we did all the bone scans and nothing showed. No broken bones, no cancer, no arthritis. So I just deal with it. (((HUGS))) Saundra

    hip pain
    Saundra - I don't know if you believe in chiropractic - but when my lower back gets out of whack my right hip hurts. Get adjusted - voila. No pain. Just an idea.

    Well, I saw my new doctor at the University this week, and yes the cyst has to come out. She's concerned because it appears to be partially solid and partially fluid. It may be nothing, it may be cancer again, she won't know for sure until it comes out. It can't be done laproscopically either, so it's full abdominal surgery again. I'm hanging my hope on my low CA-125 number. Unfortunately, I have no clue what my numbers were before my initial surgery last July. The doctor then didn't think it was cancer, so he didn't bother to do a CA-125 prior to surgery. That, and a couple of other things my new doctor brought up that should have been done (but weren't) means I won't EVER be seeing the first one again. This surgery is scheduled for May 6 since I already had plans for something that couldn't be changed until the 4th. Honestly, I'm pretty depressed that it's only been 4 months since I ended chemo and this has shown up. I'm going to try not to borrow trouble though, and hope for the best. Take care everyone.

    Colleen - I'm so sorry to hear this news. I wonder why they can't do this laparoscopically? Do you think they are going to look for more things or do more debulking? I remember a while ago we had someone who had a tumor that was partially fluid/partially solid and hers turned out fine I think. Think good thoughts, think good thoughts.

    I will be saying prayers for you on the 6th and as always the warriors are always on my mind.

    Dearest Colleen, Sorry to hear about the surgery but I know the Docs at the U wouldn't do it unless they thought it to be the best course of action. I have had two surgeries and seemed liked the second one wasn't as bad as the first.

    I will be at women's health on May 7th so if you think you would like a visit I would stop on up, I understand if you would not.

    Is there someone who can post for you to let us know how things are going while you are in? There is a computer on the floor that you have access to also when you feel up to it. You will find the nurses on 7c are awesome, the best of the best and all the docs and fellows. You are in excellent hands this time around.

    I will be thinking of you and praying for good results. I know you would like to do this through a laparoscope. Know they are going to get a much better picture of what is going on this way. Maybe they want to see better than they can through a scope. I am hoping the best for you!

    Hi Bonnie,
    That would be great if you have time to stop by. I would love to meet you in person, and it will give me something to look forward to while there. I probably won't be at my best though! I'll be bringing my laptop, so if the hospital has wireless I will be able to update. Otherwise I'll have my hubby do it.
