Hi Ladies and Gents,

For those of you who do not know Kourtnee she is a young college gal who has been fighting breast cancer. I had not heard or seen her here in a long time so I sent her a CSN email, she is still fighting the bc and has had to have additional surgery. Please remember Kourtnee in your prayers and for those who remember her if you have a free moment I know she would love to get a note from you.

Love to all,

RE

Thanks RE, yes I will send
Thanks RE, yes I will send her warm wishes and big cyber hugs. That's not the way to spend your college years is it? I hope she's successful in conquering the beast and how very nice that you checked in on her. I often wonder about people who have "disappeared" from the board and try to imagine they have gotten on with their life. I guess that's not always the case, is it?

I, too, had been wondering about Kourtnee. She was so young and scared when she was on this site. I also remember that she lacked family support. I will write her a CSN email. Thanks for reaching out to her RE.

    Kourtnee
Hello, Re, I did not come here until after Kourtnee, but I will reach out to her. I used to teach college students, and Joe/Aortus still does--it is heartbreaking to think of so young a woman, facing cancer when she should be enjoying her college years and finding out about herself and what she wants to do with a full life ahead. Thank you for letting us know about this Kourtnee.

Thank you all for your caring words, I heard from Kourtnee again today. She had additional cancer related surgery ten days ago and is quite scared. Your notes and prayers I am sure would be appreciated.

Dear Kourtnee, I am so glad
Dear Kourtnee, I am so glad you checked in. You are really going through a rough spot and I think you need to come here more often. Perhaps I'm wrong (as I frequently am ) but it sounds like you're in a real black hole and I totally understand. You are right. This is NOT FAIR!! You are in the prime of your life and are supposed to be finishing college, going on skiing trips, worrying about far more trivial things like makeup, hair, guys and what's new with Britney. But here you are dealing with a serious life altering disease. And it is so unfair. And now we need to make choices as to how we're going to deal with it because dwelling in that hole will only feed the terror.

A saying comes to me that I try and use whenever I don't like the events taking place in my life and that is "to change the world, change your perception of the world". The gals on this board have truly shown me that. Chemo and surgery can either be disfiguring, mutilating, poisonous or healing. I wish there were better choices, but at this point there isn't.

I hope you have shared your feelings with your doc. And I wonder if an antidepressant might help you out right now. Perhaps a break from school to help you sort things out?? You know yourself best. Do not give up hope Kourtnee, you are a warrior and I think there are huge rewards waiting for you at the end of this. The world will truly look different.

I'm sure if you call csn they can get a "buddy" for you that lives close who will visit and help you through it. Know we care very deeply and please come to this site and vent all you like, I know the comments that follow will help you feel not so alone.

    Hugs and Tears

I was just wondering about her. I'm sorry to hear that she is not done with the beast!!!

Thank you, RE, for following up! Did she say she is coming to this site ever, or do we need her e-mail to send a note?

    Hugs, Kathi

PS: well, read the rest of the thread....and there you are, Kourtnee!!!! I'm battling heart failure with my beau, so I know what it feels like to wonder if life will ever be fun again. I am sending big hugs to you!!!

Just to follow up on Jan's excellent suggestions
I'm sure you have done so already, but just to make sure, you may want to see if you can receive counseling through your college. Over the years I must have referred dozens of students to our university's counseling service. As I always tell them, I know from personal experience how much our counselors can help.

It says something about your inner strength that you are continuing with your education - I frankly can't see how a young woman as brave as you could lose. Best wishes as you keep up the fight!

    Hi Kourtnee
Oh sweetheart....you really do have a lot of poop on your plate. Like Joe, I am amazed and in a state of admiration over the fact that you are still attending classes and working so hard at getting your degree. Look in the mirror, right into your own eyes, and know that you ARE an amazing young woman.
This is very, very unfair, and right now your life sucks big time. And if you are feeling as though you want to give up, then perhaps you still haven't found the right people to talk to, anti-depressants not withstanding. (There's only so much that anti-depressants can do by themselves...)
Please try to follow the other members' suggestions here and contact CSN to find someone(s) that you can talk to in your area that specifically deals with life-threatening illnesses. If you weren't scared right now, you would truly be insane!! So try to take that as a tiny bit of encouragement...being scared is OK. So is being furious, sad, and just plain fed up. But finding the right person to confide in and who has input that you find useful can make all the difference in the world.
So please, please, sweetie, try to find some help, and if you're too tired to do it, have your/a friend (the one in the picture, perhaps?) assist in the search.
I hope you will stay in touch here...along with everyone else, I am sending positive thoughts and lots of prayers your way.
    Love and hugs,
    Debi

    Hi Kourtnee, I had been
Hi Kourtnee, I had been wondering how you were doing. I think I remember you had surgery months ago. So I take it that something has happened to necessitate another surgery?

It sounds like you are very down in the dumps. I know how emotionally devastating cancer and treatment can be. It threatens your life and causes you to feel unsure of your future, everything seems uncertain. This is very draining mentally and physically even.

It will be 3 years on the 17th for me and I still feel scared and depressed some of the time when I think of everything I have been through. But at the same time I am determined to stay strong and not let cancer or even the memory or fear of it rob me of enjoying my life. Kourtnee you too must remain strong because cancer can be beat but you have to stay positive and believe you can beat it. The brain has a lot of power over the body. Just think, when we are very afraid, our body suffers with trembling, diarrhia, headache, nausea. When we are feeling very depressed, our body suffers fatigue and even lack of appetite. If our brain can cause all of that in response to negative thoughts, then it makes sense that we can cause just as strong a reaction for healing with positive thoughts and beliefs.

You have to try and be hopeful and think that you will be ok. You have a long happy life ahead of you. College is just the beginning and you will make it through this Kourtnee. In the meantime, we are all here for you. Hang tough, and you are in my prayers. Eil
