Hi Everyone, not sure if I posted or not but I did get the Oxaliplatin a week ago. Some very weird side affects but also an allergic reaction. Not so severe that I called, just took a couple benedryl :-) The day after I recieved chemo I was very very red faced(didn't get steroids either) and the following day my eyes were swelled shut, so finally took benedryl and it helped. Not sure if he'll add some premeds and try again or (with my history of being allergic to carboplatin) just stop. I knew being on chemo and no remissions for so long(almost 6 years) that it would eventually get to a place where we run out of options, just thought I would be sicker and it would be easier to choose.

Anyway, trying not to go there yet but also trying to be realistic.

Had a wonderful thanksgiving, even though I had to lay down and had some moments when I felt like my whole body had had enough. :-) Oh the wonders and gifts that are given to us each day that let us continue to enjoy life and do what we can, then send in others to do what we can't anymore.

    So glad to hear you had a nice Thanksgiving, even though you had to step aside at times. I hope you were able to enjoy the feast, and most importantly, your family. I did post on Caringbridge, but didn't ask when your next treatment will be and do you know how many you'll have?

    Glad you had a good Thanksgiving. We spent the day with friends since our kids live too far to come for a short holiday. Ate so much I gained 3-4 lbs. Easy for me these days. This Thanksgiving I was most grateful to have had three months free of chemo so I was feeling pretty good.

    Sometimes the low dose Taxol gave me the red face. This was toward the end as my resistance to it was building up..I had to take 2 benedryl every 4 hours in addition to the steroids given at the infusion.
    It didn't itch but felt hot. Was this similar to you? My eyes did not swell though.

    Today we had a Memorial service for my 87 year old last uncle and I read your writing on "Eagles in A Storm" based on Isaiah 40:31 and everyone loved it. He was a navigator on a B-29 in WWII and could always sore above a storm. See what an inspiration you are to me!!!!

    Bonnie, thanks for the update. I saw the picture of your beautiful family from Thanksgiving on your website. One would never know you had just had chemo and had the side effects you have described. You actually look like the picture of health.

    Hey Kathleen, Funny how well one can look and not feel the best. Thanks a bunch!! This morning we had to go to ER as my temp spiked to 102 but now is back down. Not sure what is happening, but they did cultures to make sure and gave me antibiotics before I left. What a journey this cancer takes us on.

    Saundra, thanks for sharing about the taxol ~ when on taxol the steroids always made me red faced. This drug was given without steroids so figure it is from the drug. Also thanks for sharing the memorial service, wow 82 is wonderful age.

    Hi Bonnie,

    Glad to hear that you've finally been able to have the chemo. Too bad about the side effects, though-they're not any fun, are they?

    How will you be monitored to see if it's helping?

    I looked in at your CaringBridge picture, too-what a fine-looking family you have!

    My Thanksgiving dinner was very pleasant, although we changed location from our house to my husband's parents' place that morning. We had almost 2' of snow, and it wasn't melting with any speed, so we took the turkey, potatoes, and other fixins to them. His folks are 87 and 93, and though they live independently, he doesn't drive anymore.

    We should all be so lucky.

I too am still getting chemo with no break. My oncologist told me I will probably be a chronic case my Ca-125 doesn’t want to drop. I wasn't too happy. I thank God for every minute I am here. God works miracles. I know he has one for you too.

    I hope you are feeling well and I'm sorry you had problems with you chemo. My brother had colon cancer and her received Oxilaplatin (sp) and he had an anaphylatic reaction. He had trouble breathing and I think they were scared because the day it happened they moved him over to the hospital. I guess it was pretty severe. Be careful and let them know if you have the slightest side effects.

    Hey Sue, thanks for the note and what you gift your are. I know your in laws had to appreciate your being so flexible far more than you can know. We are brown frozen tundra here. If you have to deal with the cold I'd prefer a little snow to cover up the ground. Buckets of Teal Hugs Bonnie

    Hi Deanna, I went out and read your profile, wow what an ordeal you have been through already. I pray chemo and radiation are going well.

    Anyway thanks for sharing about the oxaliplatin, it is a very weird drug and I will tell my oncology team about the side affects I had. Oxaliplatin is for colon and lung cancer and I have heard many people are allergic and have to stop by the 3rd or 4th treatment.

    Hey Terry, Everytime I see this picture it makes me smile. You smiling and the little bundle of joy in your arms is just precious. You are so right God works miracles all the time. People seem to miss them because they are so busy looking for the answer they want that they forget sometimes the answer is totally different. We live in hope and inspite of dealing with cancer ongoing enjoy the time given us. Pretty awesome huh?

    Bonnie, I really like what you said. It's so easy to fall into a negativity state of mind and while doing so miss all the good coming your way. There are so many things to laugh and smile about in the "time given us." Not all of us are meant to stay on this earth 90 or 100 years. The body gets worn out and diseases prey upon it. Some say there are cancer cells in people's bodies all the time but the immune system prevents them from taking over in healthy people. I don't know how true this is but even bacteria and viruses are present but don't always take over. I myself was healthy all my life until the age of 51. I rarely ever needed to see a doctor. I probably took my health for granted and my life for granted as well. Even though I'm in remission, I also realize that it could come back so I don't want to start taking my time left for granted.

    Hi Bonnie...I'm so glad you were able to have your chemo finally even if you did have some side effects. I believe both of us were having a chemo cocktail the day after Thanksgiving. I had a wonderful holiday except for the chemo and am glad to hear yours went well. I hope they find the answers to your side effects soon. (((hugz))~~Joanne
