ColonPa-WHAT-za??? ColonPalooza, my SemiColon friends!

I know many of you already know about ColonPalooza, but for those of you who don't, ColonPalooza is an event that was the brain child...or should I say brain fart (totally in the good way)...LOL...of a few members here at CSN, who thought it would be great to meet in person and celebrate their survivorship, friendship and life. That first ColonPalooza was January of 2005, in Biloxi, Mississippi, hosted by SpongeBob, and attended by Baby Lisa and Andy, and Scouty (my apologies if I missed someone). It was this little get together of a couple of friends that launched what is now an annual celebration - ColonPalooza.

ColonPalooza is, as I said above, a celebration. It is a celebration of survivorship, friendship and life for all people who have been touched by colorectal cancer - survivors, caregivers, family and friends. It is a time to give and receive support, a time to honor and remember our friends who struggle with or who have succumbed to their cancers, a time to make lifelong friends, and to have fun.

This year marks the sixth ColonPalooza and is aptly named, ColonPalooza 6!

ColonPalooza 6 will be in San Francisco, California, from November 5 through November 9, 2008. We are planning a few fun group activities such as a whine bus tour of California's premier wine country, Napa and Sonoma, where you will enjoy learning about and trying a few of the world's best wines. We will also have trips to Alcatraz where you can mentally lock up your cancer behind bars, and trips to Fisherman's Wharf, Ghiradelli Square, China Town and Golden Gate Bridge....just to name a few. We can also expect to enjoy good meals together and fun times at the local Irish and Karaoke bars.

San Francisco is one of the world's most beautiful and dynamic cities and promises lots of opportunities for fun, friendship and adventure. If you choose to join us this year for ColonPalooza 6, you are welcome to participate in the group events or explore San Francisco on your own. There are no rules at ColonPalooza and everyone is welcome to join the fun.

I have worked out a great deal at an historic hotel located in Union Square. This family owned and operated hotel is one of the higher rated hotels and has been very generous to support our group with almost unheard of room rates for San Francisco - $139 - $169 + tax per night!

Please consider joining us for the celebration. ColonPalooza 6 will be an unforgettable experience that you will cherish for a lifetime. Check out http://colonpalooza.com/ for a look at the previous paloozas, ColonPaloozas 1 - 5.

If you are interested in joining us, drop me an e-mail here or at ColonPalooza6@yahoo.com and I will forward all the details and pertinent information. You must decide soon however, I need a headcount by the end of June to be sure to lock in the good rates for everyone. Beyond that, the late comers are subject to hotel availability and possible rate increases.

We look forward to seeing everyone this Fall at ColonPalooza 6 - San Francisco!

Blessings to everyone for good health and well being,
Katie (SpongeBob and usakat - Bob & Katie)

I would be very interested in the details. I don't need a hotel, I am from San Francisco. I might also suggest the inclusion of an Asian restaurant since that is something the SF is known for. The Chinatown there is the third largest in the US.

Hi Katie,
I already sent my regrets to your hubby's post. I'm sorry not to be able to make it; we will be traveling to visit my daughter during her semester abroad this fall and can't do both.
I'm hoping for another nearby palooza one of these days, but in the meantime, Bob and I have met a few times on his tours to the northeast. I'd love to meet Mrs. Bob someday, so keep Boston in mind as a destination.
Have fun and celebrate, I'll be with you all in spirit.
All the best,

Hello Judy,

I'm so sorry you won't make it to this year's Palooza, but hopefully ColonPalooza 7 will be your year.

Bob has mentioned his visits with and your hubby and I know he is quite fond of you. Bob truly appreciates your friendship.

And yes!!! Boston is always a place I've wanted to visit - actually could be a place where we find ourselves stationed for Bob's next assignment...although, Bob says he doesn't do cold. I suppose we'll see - Uncle Sam most often has the final say in the matter. And who knows, perhaps Boston might make a good Palooza city?

Enjoy your visit with your daughter - sounds like a nice vacation.

Man, i soooo want to go to this! I've discussed it with my boyfriend, and we've run through our budget, and decided we just can't afford it. It's unfortunate because we're NOT very far away from SF. We're hoping that next time the venue will be SAN DIEGO!!! lol. There is a lot to do in this city. May i suggest renting a whole lot of campsites either at Lake Kumeyaay, or Cardiff-by-the-Sea right at the beach! Campsites are generally around $14 per night, and are not too far from the city.

Have a wonderful time in SF!

Hi! I'm newly diagnosed and would really love to get more info on your festive event. I'm actually in the wine business as well, so let me know if I can be of any assistance planning winery visits. I have a ton of personal and professional contacts in Napa, Sonoma, Lodi and most of the nearby wine regions. I'm also new to the site, so let me know how I send you my personal email address with out subjecting it to spammers, viruses, and other e-freaks.

Hello Diva!

Welcome to our group - but sorry about that secret handshake...or booty shake...thing you have to endure to join the club. You are now officially a SemiColon and have just joined a great group of folks that will help you get through your treatments with humor and tenderness.

I must say, winediva, your name makes me think we have much in common. If you have any questions about chemo let me know...if I have any questions about wine, I'll let you know. Deal?

Anyway, check your mailbox here for all the Palooza details...and contact info.
