Five Years, Maybe...

Hello All,
I have not posted in awhile, but I still check in every now and then.. Cancer was starting to be a distant memory for our family (my mom was diagnosed January 03 with Stage 3, 4 positive nodes)..
My mom had her five year follow up on Wednesday. They told her that a spot in her pelvis, that appeared on previous scans, but was not worrysome, has now grown. They have scheduled an MRI, chest scan and ultrasound of the pelvis. The doctor said that it is not bad news yet, as it could be a cyst. I am just scared that this is the beginning of the end..

Has anyone had a cyst appear on a CAT scan before? Has anyone had a pelvic recurrence?

Thanks,
Vanessa

I'm new to cancer myself (4 months tomorrow), so I can't answer your question. I do want to say, though, that I pray the answer to this is MUCH better than you're fearing at this moment. Let us know!

Yup, I have 3 on my liver...

The surgeon looked at them during the resection of my bowel, and found nothing. To this day, 3.5 years (whew!) later, they still show up...

My father has a non-cancerous cyst on his liver. Do you know if your mom had a different radiologist read the scan this time? Sometimes, if different radiologists read the scans at different times, there are different interpretations of what is seen. Something like that happened with my dad. It led to a lot of confusion. I'll be keeping you in my prayers.

I had a cyst appear on a scan a few months ago, but it is on my ovary (it hadn't been there before). But it is just a cyst. Hope that's all your Mom has too.

Know how hard the waiting is. But til you know for sure try to think good thoughts . At this point, it could be anything! Don't assume anything. Keeping your mom in my prayers. Keep us posted.

Try not to worry. It sounds from other posts that others have similar findings that turn out to be okay. Let's pray that your mothers will be the same. Keep us posted and keep the faith!

When I had my original scan before my resection (two years ago this coming Saturday), two tiny cysts were found on my kidney. The doctors decided just to watch the cysts by checking my urine for blood as part of my annual physical. I have been NED since my resection and no sign of any kidney problems. Joy

DX with Stage II colon cancer with no signs of spread or lymph node involvement. Finished FLOFOX chemo in Nov 07. Had a CT scan in Dec 07 all clear. Had my last surgery in Feb 07, CT Scan shorty there after and it showed small cysts within my right and left ovaries which had never shown up before. I thought these were because I hadn't had a period in 5-years due to taking the birth control pill and my body was just trying to regulate itself again. I have had several internal pevlic ultrasounds that continue to show a cyst(s) in the left ovary, but the right had cleard up from the last one. I have had two CA 125 blood tests (marker for ovarian cancer) and they both came back normal. My GYN doesn't seem too worried, but I will have another pelvic ultrasound in Sept 08 and if it is still there will probably continue follow-ups.

Since my DX of cancer, my doctors seem to be alot more proactive, which I prefer.

I know it is easy to "say" don't think the worst unless you have to, but try not to think of the worst or bad things at this point. Let the Drs run their tests to determine what it is, but please keep your family here updated.

Thank you so much for your positive stories.. I have spent the last four days crying. I am just so frustrated because we had finally stopped thinking about the disease and worrying about it and it took a long time to get to this point. I feel like we have just been thrown backwards five years. I am hoping and praying that this is not bad news. Thanks again for your support and I will keep everyone posted.

Have a Joyous Easter Holiday !
