Lip sores

I wanted to share a fairly successful way to deal with these that I have experienced for myself. After using such products as Abreva and Zilactin, etc. for a cold sore, I had one really bad one awhile back when I had an appt. with my prior onc. in Texas. He said to never use those products and told me to use just plain ol' Vaseline. Well, just recently I had one again and had the opportunity to try his advice. What a difference! I kept the Vaseline on continuously and it never got as ugly and sore as previous ones. I messed up one day by trying to cover it with makeup and lipstick and this is also a definite no-no. It quickly got better with more Vaseline and I am happy to say that it is gone after appearing 5 days ago. Just wanted to share...

    Thanks for the tip! My husband gets these nasty sores a couple of times a year. Abreva never seems to help much. I found Herpicin (not sure if that's how you spell it) and it's the only OTC that seemed to help. The last time was so bad and he had professional meetings to go to that I called my doc and she gave him a script for something that was like 1 pill for $40. It did the trick, but was very expensive. Will try the vaseline trick next time.

    Thanks for the information. I've gotten cold sores my entire life. There not as often that I'm older; however, since cancer I've gotten them more frequently. I take a vitamin L-Lysine that has helped with the break outs tremendously and I have a prescription for Valtex that I take at the first sign of one and take for 3 days. The cold sores aren't as big and sore. I'll try the vaseline next outbreak. Thanks for sharing.
