I would appreciate if someone out there can help me. My father has been diagnosed with having agressive bcell lymphoma last may. He has already taken 4 rounds of rchop. He is due to have another one this week. A couple of days ago he was running a fever and when his family doctor visited him he told him that he may have an infection. He was prescribed antibiotics for this infection but every afternoon he runs a fever and has developed a cough. I have also noticed 2 lumps under his armpits. Has anyone gone through this similar situation. Any advice?? I'm really worried. He seemed to be doing well. I can't get hold of his haemathologist and I don't know what to do. |

Re: agressive bcell nhlymphoma
I was told that I should go to the emergency room if my temperature went over 101. On the other hand I had a low grade fever for two weeks while I was on chemo. I was given antibiotics but the fever continued until suddenly it went away! We never knew the reason for it. When your blood counts are low, you are more susceptible to infection but, as you say, your father is already on antibiotics. I would advise you to continue to try and contact his doctor just to be on the safe side.

Hi there. As Ali has said, I would try to contact your dad's hemotologist for advice. I'm wondering how his blood counts are. The RCHOP really kicked my counts and I required injections. Best of luck to you and your father.

Re: agressive bcell nhlymphoma
My mother-in-law and I were on RCHOP at the same time. She developed an infection after her fifth treatment and was given a shot to boost her white blood cell count. After my sixth treatment I was put into the ICU because of an infection and 0 white blood cell count where I also received a shot of Neulasta (spelling of some issue.) The RCHOP was attacking our systems so well that we had nothing left to fight with, so the injections built our systems back up.
Good luck to you and I would agree that you should continue attempting to get ahold of his doctor, or if his temp goes over 101 take him in.
