I have had mine for 5 years. I have the reservour in my scrotum that I squeeze to pump the fluid into the penile tubes. Radiation for prostate cancer 12 years ago did the dirty job. It took a long time for the insurance co. to agree to the implant. (What's New)
I have the AMS700 series http://www.visitams.com/prof_erectile_restoration_product_objectname_prof_male_700_inflatable.html
I can't figure outhow to inflate it. I think there is a valve to turn on or off. How do you pump it up? How do you deflate it?
Hi.. came across your admittedly dated comments on the penile implant..I am a post operative (two years ago) prostate cancer subject, and am considering an implant, after steadily declining erectile function (AMS prosthesis).. am v. interested in discussing effectiveness thereof, surgical experience, etc... any other relevant factors before I go forward... wld appreciate any thoughts...
You can call AMS directly at 800-328-3881 and they will send you a booklet with everything you need to know. This should have happed automatically when the hospital/doctor registered the serial numbers of your device with AMS.
I have had both the penile implant and artificial urinary sphincter for about a year now. Very happy with both. Erections are not as big as before, but they last as long as you need.

harvs: What brand(s) of pads were you using when you used 6-8 per day? In the year or so after open prostatectomy six years ago I was using two light-weight Long's Pads for Men per day. As the drippage got worse over the years I've switched to the heavy-use Depends Pads for Men which absorb/hold a greater volume than the Longs. I'm currently soaking to the hilt three Depends pads per day, dripping whenever I'm standing and now even a bit when I'm sitting. Fortunately there is no drippage while in bed. My urologist considers this mild to moderate leakage and seems to be questioning the need for the AMS 800. Although I'm tired of being wet all the time, I guess I can tolerate my current situation. Appreciate your thoughts.
I was using the Depends heavy duty pads for men. I would go thru one every hour and a half or so. I had to wear the Depends disposable undergarment over them in case I did not catch it in time to change and they would over flow. I also had to wear the undergarments at night so I didn’t ruin the mattress.
I now wear only one of the Long's pads for men all day and nothing at night. I strongly recommend this device – it totally changed my quality of life.
Thanks. I'm glad the AMS 800 worked for you. I'll be seeing my urologist in a week or so for the results of my annual PSA. I'll talked with him again about the artificial sphincter.

Also given a booklet at that time.
Call AMS. Can't believe that the Dr. didn't tell you how to work the damn thing.

How bad was the leakage to put you to the point of surgery?

I was going thru 6-8 pads a day and had to wear protective underwear over them to protect against leakage when the pads overflowed.
