My dad will be taking leucovorin, irinotecan, fluorouracil (injection) and avastin. If any of you have taken any of this, please let me know how it worked for you. The Dr. was great and sat with us for over an hour and talked to us about what didn't work the last time and what he thought would work this time. Let me know. Thanks, Dana |

Re: Comments on my dad's new Med's
My father has been on this same combo for 2 years now for liver mets. He gets an infusion every other week and then wears the "chemo pump" for I think 44 hours.
He has had some shrinkage during the two straight years on this combo but for the most part he has no additional growth "stable disease"
He still works full time and is able to live a normal life except for being tired quite a bit.
Good Luck.

Dana,
I was on the irinotecan. My first treatment caused extreme abdominal pain; therefore, ended up in the hospital for a week. The next dose my onc reduced dosage by 25%. No problems after that.

I was on that combo, and for the most part it was manageable except for the tiredness. Also, after 8 rounds they had to lower the dose as it was causing my white blood count to go too low.

Dana, I was on leucovorin, oxiplatin (sp), flurouracil, and Avastin for six months. It worked great! After the 4th cycle the tumors in my liver were gone. I started with stage 3 colon cancer and 18 months later they found the mets on the liver. I continued with the treatments until the 12th cycle and have had two scans since then and am having a pet scan tomorrow morning. So far so good.
