Hi Everyone,

This really does blow my mind. Two of my very close friends, one I went to high school with and the other I met at church, dads have been diagnosed with cancer. One was diagnosed with rectal cancer on Monday. Doc said tumor was too big to remove. The family is going to the doc today to get the results of a CT scan, and to see what stage he is at, and to hear the plan of attack.

My other friend-his dad was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Both of these families have been very supportive of my family these last 9 months as my mom battles stage 4 colon cancer. Now, they find themselves facing this same battle. It is so scary for them right now so please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

I pray for a cure for this terrible disease. Thanks for your prayers and good thoughts.

God bless,

ValerieC

    Hi Valerie,

I'm so sorry that the beast has touched so many in your life. It is hard enough when it is only one person. I will keep them both in my prayers. HUGS.

    Hello Valerie,

So sorry to read about your friends' dads. I will certainly include them in my prayers, along with you and your mom.

As you suggest, I pray everyday for a cure for cancer. The new vaccine for Human Papillomavirus, which prevents cervical cancer, should give us hope. Even though there is no cure right now for lung or colon cancer, there are many stage IV survivors. My mom is NED after stage III colon, lung and stage IV mediastinum cancers. Since finishing chemo/rad in 2004, and through the ups and downs of life after three cancers in four years (canceritis and robust surveillance, as SB likes to say), she has traveled the world and is enjoying retirement.

Miracles and answers to prayers happen everyday. And for those who leave us after the fight? I believe they are called for a higher purpose.

All my best to you, your mom and your sisters.

    Valerie,

Your friends and their families will definitely be in my prayers. I remember how scary it was for me and my family when my dad was first diagnosed.

    Thanks Katie,
I needed to hear a miracle story like you and your moms tonight-feeling a little down and I am not sure why...

Anyhow, my friends dad with rectal cancer got good news today. Even though his tumor is a T3, there is no spread to liver or lungs. Doc said they could not stage him until after surgery and he will start radiation this next week. Not sure how many radiation treatments he will have before surgery. I'm sort of confused because won't the radiation clean up any lymph node involement? And then how will they stage him after radiation?? Anyhow, the news was good that his liver and lungs were clean. So, you're right...prayers are answered and mircles happen every day.

Had a 3 way call with my sisters today. They are both in Utah. It was good to talk to both of them at the same time even though we seem to be divided 2 to 1 on treatment for my mom. Just a small family fued going on between the 3 sisters. Our love is strong, just a difference of opinion.

Keeping you and your mom in my prayers-
    Valerie

    Hi Lee-
I was thinking of your folks the other day. Hope they are having a wonderful time in Florida. Wish I was somewhere warm, it is freezing here in Colorado. Hubby took all the boys camping in Arizona last week for 6 days. They thought they were heading somewhere warm...little did they know Arizona had some of this frigid air we have been having!! One of our boys drools while he sleeps and he woke up with his face frozen to his cot. Needless to say they checked into a hotel for the rest of the trip.

Hope you are feeling well, God bless-
