Colon removed--Stage II, N0, M0

On Aug 3 I had surgery to remove my colon and other than 10 long days in the hospital, a minor set back after going home, I am happy to report that things seem to be moving in a positive direction for a a change. I returned to work 6 weeks post surgery--not because I had to, but because I felt good and wanted to. My oncologist has now prescribed 5-Fu, Leucovorin, and Eloxatin. I have been procrastinating because I don't want to feel bad again, but thanks to a discussion posted on this board on the 28th, I have decided to move forward and make the call to my oncologist on Monday. Once again my head is in a better place because of the people here. Now if I could just get my butt to look like a butt instead of swag drapes I would be fine. (A little weight loss humor which seems to help others deal with my 25 lb weight loss.)

    I lost 30. And, because of my 'zipper' down from my belly button, for awhile it was hard to see which side was the butt!!!!
    Welcome to the semi-colons!!!!
    I remember being in the situation of not wanting to feel bad again...and then I was told...well, you know what I said in that other post...and I never regret fighting the beast with all of my might!!!
    Before you know it, you will be like me...I had my mediport removed on Tuesday....can't get cancer again...no way to treat it!!!!

    My zipper was only about 4 inches because my surgery was primarily lapro, but I too made the same observation. Congrats on the removal of the mediport. Yours is out and mine is coming in--so you passed the baton.
    Thanks for the "belly" laugh". I love that I have kept my sense of humor as it helps keep those around me close instead of distant.

    Looks like we are on the same road. I was also diagnosed stage 2a and had surgery on August 26th and also went home and had to go back. I lost 20 pounds in two weeks. The past couple of weeks I've been exercising (gradually and slowly) and feel pretty good and I've gained back 7 pounds with puts me pretty close to where I would like to be.

    After talking to my sugeon and onc I have also decided to get chemo. Six months sounds like a long time but I'm sure once it's in the past it won't seem so long.

    I wish you all the best and hope you scate through chemo without a hitch...Mark

    You are right about time passing. I have stopped thinking about it as months and instead consider it 12 treatments. Somehow that seems easier. I too wish you the best Mark.

    I to had colon cancer surgery on 10 July 06. I am also Stage II, NO & MO. I started the FLOFOX Regime of Oxiplatin, 5FU and Lecovorn (sp?) on 18 August and should be complete by 1/07. Every other week for 6 months.

    I weighed 130 lbs before surgery and once done and back home, I was down to 114 lbs. Chemo has not made me sick, so I have been able to gain weigh, I am now 122 lbs.

    What I have heared and reads, you want to make sure you eat fruits, vegs, protein and take vitamins.

    I have been taking vitamins (C, E, Caltrate 600+D, multi-vitamin) for several years. It was my BAD diet that go me hear. I drink MORE water than I have ever had, feel like a fish, but good.

    I have Kathi's problem too. LOL. I just wanted to say I'm glad we were here to help. Tell us when your first treatment is so we can all send notes to you. I lost 30 lbs after dx. I'm done chemo so I have gained a few back. There is life after chemo so plan something fun for when you are done to celebrate! The chemo sometimes is not fun but we are all here for you to vent to. HUGS.

    Laughter for me was pivotal. I even cracked a joke as the anethesiologist's thumb was on the plunger.....better to go out with a smile, I always say!!!
    Just like you and lisa....I focus on the positive...find something to laugh about everyday. AND I focused on planning something big (Spa in Palm Springs) after all treatment was over...gave me something else to think about!
