Esophagus damage, they think...

So I took your advice and called my oncs and they told me to stop over at the hospital there for a look-see on why I am having trouble swallowing.

The verdict they'll talk about is possible damage to the esophagus from the chemo or even a possible thrush infection, also from the chemo. They gave me a special "Magic Mouthwash" that you swallow... it has antibiotics and lidocaine and a couple of other things.... good stuff to have on hand if I ever get mouth sores.

Then they sent me for a set of chest Xrays. OK, probably means they are being diligent and looking in the lungs or the esophagus for any sign of mets. They didn't really specify, and they didn't need to. I understood. They hinted that this was precautionary, to reassure me, and that's OK, too. They did say that they really didn't think it was something outside the esophagus pressing in, but to be sure....

If there is anything alarming on the Xray they'll call me. If not, I'll use the mouthwash, see them next Friday, and see if the chemo needs to be adjusted before I'm infused that day. Hopefully everything will be back to normal before that!

Thanks all!!!

Oh, Patrusha, I am so glad that you went in and got everything checked out. One of my chemo friends had a thrush infection that caused her much discomfort. I hope the "Magic Mouthwash" makes your problem disappear!

Thinking of you and please keep us posted.

    Hugs,

Patrusha,,sorry to hear that you had to go for all that stuff,of x rays etc. but thank goodness it looks that you have a good attitude, and that is so important,I'll try to learn from you if things get more complicated for me in the future, let us think that you are going to be using the mouthwash, meaning that everything will be allright,I will

YAHOOOOOOOOOOOO You called the doctor!!!!! That is so important for them to learn that YOU control your treatment plan and healing. I think they like it when patients ask questions and seem to be in control of their own situation. You go girlfriend and keep us posted!!!!!!

    I am proud of you.
