Hi everyone. My husband just completed his 5th round of chemo and is experiencing significant neuropathy in mouth, hands and feet. He has trouble holding things and has fallen a few times. In previous posts I've seen several references to B vitamin supplements that may help offset the neuropathy. Can anyone offer information regarding the specific vitamin and dosage recommendation?
Thanks!
Terry

    Hi Terry,

I have neuropathy from the folfox I was on. My onc told me to take a B supplement and make sure there is about 100mg of B6 in it. You should also tell your onc about the neuropathy. They might lower the dose of Oxiplatin or discontinue it. I got 9/12 treatments for Stage 3 and stopped because of the neuropathy. My onc was confortable with me saying stop. Is your husband diabetic? Sometimes if blood sugars (from the Oxiplatin) are high (about 400 or above) motor skills are effected. I would be worried about the falling. My feet are numb and I get "off balance" sometimes but have never fallen. HUGS and hope this helps.

    Terry.
My Dr. pulled the Oxy out after treatment # 10 (round 5) I am now on 5fu/luc/avastan. Just had treatment # 16 . My mouth is okay. I can drink ice cold drinks , But my feet and my fingers are still pretty numb . I also lose my balance a lot . I think it has more to do with the way I have adjusted the way I walk because my feet hurt so bad . I do take B6 50mg three times a day , But have to admit I keep forgetting to take them . I do notice a big difference whan I do take them . Be sure and tell his Onc about the numdness . If he starts to feel numb in his ankles then he might pull it.Hope this helps .
Take Care and God Bless .

Hi, My onc has given me magnesium sulfate IV before the oxi infusion, I am taking Magnesium tablets w zinc, two a day, ( 3 tabs = 400 mg) and vit B6 100 mg 3 times a day. I just finished my 4 th round and have some neuropathy but it is tolerable. On the week of treatment I sometimes drop something light ( like a piece of paper) but not bad yet. Don't know if the meds are helping but they don't hurt.
