Hello all.
Just wanted to fill you in on my first Dr. Appt at Brooks .
I am so excited and feel like I am in better hands . My new Dr. (Dr. handsome) oops I mean Dr Jones is great . He looked right at me with a were going to take care of you here look the whole time .In fact my Appt lasted 2 hours . He talked about all of the things that are being done as far as cancer right up stairs . especially with colon cancer and liver mets . even mentioned the treatment bestydoglover talked about when she went to NIH .He told me that he has talked with my Dr. in Hawaii and had him fill him in on everything that he was doing . His words were I want to know everything right down to every pill she has ever taken. And was very excited that I was changing my diet He is a firm believer in positive attitute and good nutrition . He has me set up to see a nutritionist to help me with my diet ,Phyicial therpy to help me with aches and pain from chemo, Behavorial therpy to help me with my emotions . She was there during my visit as well, and she will be there while I get chemo .He said he had a patient with crc. mets to the liver that survived 17 years and just passed away but not from cancer he was 83.He also talked about a new antidepressant that just came out that works great with depression and studies found that it helps with the nerauphty (sp)
So his plan is for me to start back up on chemo (my platelets are back up ) Then after 2 rounds get a pet/cat scan . He said that they have a scan that does both at the same time (YIKES)I have not had a pet scan yet !!!!
Anyways just wanted to share my news . oh and he felt my liver and he said that it feels like it is the right size it is suppose to be in fact he was surprized as he thought from talking to my DR. That my liver would feel much larger .
I feel so relieved .
To Jana.. I sure hope that you are feeling better . Please don't give up on hope .like someone said in the last post everything happens for a reason .I seen a recent show where Tammy Faye had rad to her lung and she looked like she was doing great .
Hope to meet you all soon in Austin . But it looks like I will be having chemo the Wed before So will see how that goes .I will get in touch with you Kerry if I can make it.Can you email me your phone # ? maybe I can meet you all when you come here to see the Alamo.
TAKE CARE AND GOD BLESS

OK, spill, girl....HOW do I get to this guy????
Even my GASTRIC SURGEON was cute...looked about 12, but still VERY easy on the eyes...ROFL!

No worries about the CT/PET scan. Done in the same machine...the CT scan does the physical stuff, PET does active spots stuff (something that is active and "eating"). Only diff is that you are given a small amount of radiated glucose before test. And then asked to lay VERY STILL (they want any cancer eating the stuff, not the rest of your body that ALSO uses glucose as fuel) for about 1/2 to 1 hour. Then both scans are done, without you changing position.

I think this is WAY COOL....PET scan found my second cancer (breast) when they were just looking for mets from the colon.

I'm so glad you found someone who's so interested and energetic...and cute to boot!!!!

    Hugs,
    Kathi

Hi Debra - new doc sounds great (and cute!).

PET/CT is a piece of cake. However, as I understand it from both my oncologist and from NIH, the CT that is done at the same time as PET is for positioning only and is not diagnostic. I always have a PET/CT and then go for a separate diagnostic CT of chest/abdomen/pelvis the same day. So, you might want to check this out. But, I know it feels good to feel like you've landed with a doc who is interested in your case and wants to do the best by you.

    Good luck.

Yes - definitely cool. My PET - CT's always involve fusion of PET and CT. Scary but very helpful and so far for me it has shown good news!

Debra, sounds like Tx agrees with you! I am so very happy to hear you got Dr. Handsome & Caring. Nice combo for an onc. :)

Get those treatmetns started, unpack the house. I LOVED the liver mets story. I am banking on being the lung met woman!

Be good to yourself. If you don't come to Austin - we will be sad, but understand.

My hubby and I will be driving to McAllen at the end of June. We are going to stop in San Antonio to stay with one of my friends. I will definately meet you then, if not sooner.

I hope you make lots of friends and adjust to the land locked dirt in San Antonio. When you miss the beach, come visit me and we will go hang out at South Padre. :)

    Stay strong. jana

    OK girls...

For the record I am shocked that you would reduce a medical professional to a piece of beefcake. It insults me as a man. I feel cheapened.

    (wink)

Deb - So glad things are going well for you there at Brooks! Sounds like you have a real unique military doc! Did Joe threaten to whip his butt if he didn't treat you right?

Keep up the great attitude and be well!

You are so right when you said nice that I got a great Military Dr. Believe me after 18 years of it .I have seen my fare share of the 15 min NEXT treatment .I was very surprised at how well I was treated. In fact I was prepared to take a stand . But the moment I walked in he was answering questions before I even asked .It is a really nice hospital . very clean and orderly . Tripler had a open door policy and people were coming in out of the chemo room .use to make me nervous .And I dont have to get there so early just to get a seat .everyone is assighned a seat ,I will always get a bed or recliner since My chemo takes so long .
He said something about Walter Reed moving most of there research over here.

It sounds great, Debra. He is looking at many aspects which is so important. By the way, the "kid" who put my port in was a 4th year resident. Cute, but oh so young. Hello Mrs Robinson!!! Good luck and God bless you. Terri

Hey! So thrilled that you are happy with your new doc...so important to have faith in those who do goofy things to us! A sentimental portion of me thinks that part of the wonderful treatment is a "Texas thing". I have always experienced a great deal of graciousness - even by total strangers - when I was in Texas; loved every minute of it and I hope you do as well. The doc sounds like a keeper and I am happy for you...what a relief as you unpack... Take care and I trust everything will continue on a such a positive note. All the best - Maura

    Hi Debra,

I think those of us who live nearby will have to come to San Antonio and check out Dr. Hunk!!?? I'm so happy that you are comfortable with your new medical care. San Antonio has a very good cancer center and some very good doctors....and obviously some very good and good-looking doctors!

Check your email, I'm sending you my phone number.

Take care and we hope you can make it to Austin in a couple of weeks.

Strewth, flamin gals...all you think about is "hunk"..geeeeeeeeeez! I agree with you Sponger....imagine coming all tha way from Hawaii just so one can be treated by some hunk of a fella. Never would any of us guys stoop so low. Although I will admit to visiting my clinic occassionally to make sure some of my chemo friends are being made comfortable. Tha thought of seeing my former nurses, Janette, Lisa, Kay, Kathy, Joanne, Chrissy and ....oh yes...Raelene....never crossed my mind...he!he!

Hey Deb...honestly gal...and seriously...so great to know you are in good hands gal. I betcha we will make EVERY effort to see you!

I'm interested in the antidepressant your doctor mentioned that might help with the neuropathy as well. When you find out the name, would you post it so we can all check into it? Thanks!
