Hi guys:

I found a funny piece of trivia which gave me a good chuckle, so I thought I'd share it with you guys :)

We all know that 5FU has been the chemo mainstay for colon cancer since the 1950s. Over the years, doctors have been mixing it with several other drugs with the hope to increase its efficacy.

In the late 80s, they started to mix 5FU with a drug called Levamisole. The funny thing is that Levamisole was, up until that time, primarily used by vets to treat tapeworms in dogs and livestock.

So, ask you oncologist about Levamisole if you or your pets have tapeworms :)

Cheers,
JADot

    JaDot -

    In one of my VERY part time jobs, I am the teaching assistant for a distance learning Veterinary Technician Pharmacology course at Purdue. So I knew about levamisole from that work. When I first got into this colon cancer thing, I was beyond shocked to hear about its use! Kind of glad I didn't have a protocol that utilized it, cuz it just makes me think of internal parasites that frankly can be pretty gross!

    GREAT story. Laughed so hard. You know, IVF (infertility) got started in cow/bulls. 5FU is love/hate for me.....cured me, but boy, was it rough!

    Hi JADot,
    Want to guess why Foxy and I don't have tapeworms. Right on ,levamisole. I used to take 9 tablets over 3 days every second week of chemo. That went on for 48 weeks . Boy they shouldn't be allowed to test their vetinary
    drugs on humans. It has to be one of the most sickening drugs I have ever been on ,a good hit of 5FU on the non levamisole week was almost a pleasure. But and it is a big but ,Foxy and I have over 20 years of survival between us with me advanced stage three and her stage four. Ron.

    Ya learn something new every day! - Thanks, Dot

    Jeez... I guess that means if I get on that protocol, I could eat all the paper I want (mom always told me that if I eat paper I'd get a tape worm) Yummy!

    I like the eating paper bit Sponger. When we were all kids we used to play in tha dirt all day and never had any effects. Nowadays it ain't the place for babies and kids to play...I think the old immune system can't cope with todays germs....either that or todays parents are paranoid the kids will contract some disease playing in dirt...then again;
    maybe not such a bad idea....metinks we have polluted our own dirt too much to be complacent. Oh, for tha good old days!
    btw....did yah eat newspaper, toilet paper or just plain old A4?.....lol!
