I am currently taking Avastin + Erbitux, and have been on this regimen since January. It is too early to say if it's effective. Last summer I was on 5FU + Avastin and Oxaliplatin but I did not tolerate 5FU well at all, and it was even worse when I tried CPT-11 last December. So, the docs decided to use only targeted therapy in my treatment.

Has anyone else been using only targeted therapy drugs (Avastin, Erbitux, Oxaliplatin ... am I forgetting about any of the new drugs?) without 5FU or CPT-11 or Xeloda? Have you used any of the targeted therapy drugs alone or in combination with other ones? Has it been effective?

Rodney, I was lucky enough to respond to the traditional cysplatin/5FU combo. I wanted to send blessings to you on targeted chemo. I know you don't like to be on the cutting edge here...5FU was hell, by the way for me too...but keep up the fight! I think this is the way to go. 5FU is sooooo nasty.

Thanks for the nice thoughts, Kathi. Actually, I don't mind one bit being on the cutting edge of cancer treatment. I'm all for it! And the 5FU that I had last year was effective. I went from having seven liver mets to being NED while using 5FU. I'm only curious how effective targeted therapy might be in preventing recurrence. And I also despise the disfiguring and often painful/itchy rash I get from Erbitux, so I'm curious about other combos of these new drugs.

    Thanks again!

    Hi
I was on folfiri for six months until c. August 2005, there was about 40 per cent reduction in liver met. Then avastin alone until Dec, when ct scan showed some activity in met. Since then, oxiplatatlin and 5fu push, no avastin or erbitux. Don't really know why. Scan on 20 March. So was never NED, (yet)so can't advise on recurrence. This is not much help I know. Best wishes with your 2 pronged attack.
