Hi all -

My Champion juicer arrived Saturday. With some fear and trepidation I set off to purchase organic veggies and apples this morning. With even more trepidation I figured out how to use the thing (really worried that I would gag at the taste). Then it was time to start....

I used Emily's recipe, although I threw in a couple of radishes I happened to have (also organic of course). I produced a big bowl of what looked like brackish water (with an orange tinge). Then I added the green powder and flax - definitely swamp water at that point!

Would I ever be able to drink the stuff? Answer - amazingly - YES! It wasn't so bad. The apple and ginger definitely help with taste. And, maybe it is my years in Texas, but about halfway thru drinking the glass, I added a few splashes of hot sauce. Definite improvement!

So, it looks like I can do this! Another positive thing - I had an appointment with my oncologist on Friday and I told her I was going to start this. Kind of worried that I might hear some negativity from her, but her reaction was "go for it!". So I'm off to the races. Gonna beat this beast. I'm NED now and if I have anything to do with it, I'll stay that way. (Have another PET/CT on 2/16, just 2 months after my last one - guess I'll have to get used to always having an impending scan to worry about, or not!

Happy juicing!

Betsy

    Hi,
We live in Texas, never thought about adding a few drops of hot sauce..you might have come up with something...my husband loves spicey and hot things, so I think tonight I'll add that and see what he says. He actually doesn't like the taste now, with apples or ginger or whatever...so maybe the hot sauce will do it..
    Thanks for the suggestion.

Omg, thats so funny. Swamp water....yes especially with the flax in it. But I agree most of the time it isn't too bad, although I have made some pretty bad ones. But it helps thinking about all the good fresh nutrients that you are putting into your body.

I haven't been juicing in months. I need to pick it up again.

Glad to hear you are having a good go at it.

    Hi Betsy!

I am so glad you are juicing too. The swampwater sounds familiar. The first one I did tasted like it too. I am sure the hot sauce would have helped. I will have to try that next time. I have been doing fruits for my kids. First orange juice I didn't take off the rind and it was horrible. I am going to try it tomorrow without the rind. The kids love the apple juice. We even added some grapes today and no sugar is needed.
We made icecream too with my Greenstar juicer. We froze some fruit and just creamed the fruit. Kids and hubby liked it. I am going to do that again but with fruit that is good for Leukemia which my dad has.
Tell me if you find any good recipes! Yeah juicing! Take Care.

Hey - So glad that you were not too freaked out! I love it - and most importantly - feel as if I am handling my own care when I juice! Best of luck to you - Maura

    Hi Ladies:

I just go my juicer today! I got an Omega 8005. So, I will be making my own swamp water any time now. Must dash off to Whole Foods to get some fresh organie fruit and veggies to feed my new toy, maybe pick up a bottle of tobasco at the same time :)

Lisa, sounds like your whole family is benfitting from your new juicer. It's so cool! Slightly OT, how are you doing w/ the tofu recipes I sent?

    Cheers,

    hi all you JUICERS!!

Well, I am so proud of all you juicing semi-colons!! That is awesome!!!

You will eventually settle on a recipe that works for you.

I want to stress that one of the important aspects of WHY we juice is to balance out the acid/alkaline of your system. Salt falls in the highest ACID side of the spectrum. We want to remember that cancer likes acid. Not alkaline. So if you start adding stuff to your juice make sure you are not shooting yourself in the foot.

    Happy Juicing!!

    peace, emily
