follow up after Tamoxifen

Hi, I don't get to this site as often as I used to so I may have missed discussions about what to do after 5 years onTamoxifen. Like many others I feel I want to continue some form of treatment, it seems I need to do that for my own peace of mind. Has anyone tried Femara? I just received some info on it but haven't checked it out yet. My doctor doesn't seem to have an opinion one way or another.

    Hi Judy! I finished my Tamoxifen in the middle of Sept. I started the Femara in the beginning of Oct. My MD suggested we try it. It has a good reputation for post Tamoxifen but no specific time period to take it. It has some side effects: Muscle pain, joint pain, bone loss and fractures. I was willing to try, anything to prevent recurrance. I must say I am having muscle and joint pain in my hands and elbows/forearms. The Orthopedist never heard of Femara so he is uncertain that the pain is from the meds. I am going to see a Rheumotologist on Thurs. to R/o anything else. I still think the discomfort is worth the prevention. Hopefully I can find something to relieve the discomfort. Please feel free to e-mail me if you want to chat or ask questions.     I recently started on femara after taking tamoxifen for less than 5yrs. My Dr felt femara was better from me than tamoxifen. Only side effect is joint pain and tiredness. I was constantly worrying about uterine cancer while on tamoxifen. I really don't need anything else to worry about. So far, so good. My prayers are with you.
