edited March 2014 in Colorectal Cancer #1
Hello
This is my first time to contact this board, but I have been reading for quite a while. Diagnosed in October 04, suffering extreme pain in colon area, underwent emergency surgery, got results cancer stage 4 with one possible 2 liver mets. Did the folfiri regime pllus avastin. Got through the chemotherapy fine, and am still receiving a half hour of avastin once a fortnight. Went for ct scan last week (3 months after finishing Chemotherapy)no noticeable change in liver mets. phew. However I would like to hear from someone who has been on avastin for as long or longer and how they are doing I suppose I have been on it for approx 10 months now.

Best wishes
Margo

    Hi Margo,
Just wanted to welcome you to the board. I can't answer your question because I've only been on Avastin from Jan to July as part of the Folfiri regime. You've come to a great place for support and answers.

Hi! I have been on Avastin only since March, but will continue on it for another year after FOLFOX treatment is over. I notice being out of breath easily and nosebleeds after Avastin treatment. Also have fatigue, but that may be due to all the other drugs they're still pumping into me. How are you doing with side effects on Avastin only?

    Hi BB
I am happy to report that I have no side effects from Avastin although I do take medication for high blood pressure (one of the side efects)It was brilliant to finish the chemotherapy, about 4 months ago, hair thickening, no sudden onsets of diarrhea(sp?)and more energy. I wish you luck. Do you have liver mets. mine are inoperable due to being attached to major vein,

    Another Dub!
how is your boyfriend doing. I am 45 years old and receiving treatment in Beaumont hospital. is your boyfriend still receiving chemotherapy. Does he also have inoperable liver mets? Its just such a terrible predicament. how do you personally, cope with it. Am toying with idea of alternative medicine. have you considered this at all? thanks for replying.

Hi- got good news on Friday- he's being treated in Vincent's and he's 26- he had a few small tumours on his liver and the CT scan results show that they have disappeared (doc pointed out v strongly that the scan does not show all activity though). Such a horrible disease, but it's the first good news for a year so we both feel v heartened. Hope treatment is going OK for you. Please contact me through email if there's anything else you want to discuss.
