Lung Mets Metastectomy

Hi All,

I got unhappy news yesterday that the nodes in my lungs are tumors that have spread from my original site fo rectal cancer. The news was confimrmed via a CT guided biopsy (no fun!) The Interventional Radiologist recommended I look into metastectomy as the nodes (though numerous - 10) are all located on the periphery of my lungs and should be able to be removed via metastectomy. She was surprised when I told her my Oncologist and a Thoracic surgeon I had met with did not even mention this as an option. Is anyone familiar with this procedure? If so, any information you would have would be great. Thanks, and prayers for all of you.

    No advice here. Just wanted to let you know how sorry I am to read of your diagnosis. I wish you all the best in the next steps on our cancer adventure. Keep us posted.

    Hi. I am sorry to hear your news. But very glad to hear that the Interv. Radiologist is outlining an Action Plan for you. I'm afraid I haven't heard of metastectomy. But I am learning a lot fast about lung mets! Sorry to hear the CT-guided biopsy was unpleasant. Yesterday I had bronchoscopy which was truly awful. If that is unsuccessful in harvesting cells for biopsy, I will be having CT guided biopsy on Friday. Oh joy. BUT -- I feel blessed to have wonderful doctors and technology available to me -- and the amazing treatment options we have available to us today. Sending love and best wishes.

    I had 2 oncologists (one in Boston, where I went for a second opinion), tell me that once the scans show more than one or two lesions surgery is not an option. They said is was too invasive and the fact that there were more than 2 suggested that not only were they dealing with the 10 or so lesions that could be seen, but there was also the strong possibility that there were more microscopic lesions and to put me through the surgery was not worth it. I don't know if that's where your onc and surgeon are coming from, but I thought I'd let you know what my docs said about it.
