Start chemo today. 5 FU, leucovorin, and irinotecan (i think this is the folfiri regimen) and avastin. Also have an appt with a radiation oncologist today, to talk abotu possible radiation treatment. My medical oncologist doesn't think it's an option, but i want to hear what radiation specialist thinks. I also have a 2nd opinion scheduled at Dana Farber in Boston on Feb 4. My hubby and I are going to make a weekend of it and head to Newport, RI. RI is one of my favorite places, so i'm looking forward to that. I am keeping you all my my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for all the support you've given me.
Mary

    Ahoy, Mary -

Sound like you have a great plan for your second opinion! Enjoy Newport - there's a great little Irish pub down there onthe mail drag... for the life of me I could drive right to it (or stumble right home from it!), but I can't recall the name. If you get any digital pix of Mansions Row, please share them! I've never seen them in snow.

    Stay warm! and be well,

    Dear Mary,

I'm so very happy that you sound well and determined. It's sounds as if you have everything under control and well-thought out. I hope you respond well to the chemo with minimal side effects. I'm praying that the regime alone will put you into NED and you won't even have to discuss radiation! It could happen.

    Be well and livestrong,
    Andrea

    p.s. Enjoy your mini-break:)

Thank you andreae . I know it's only been one treatment, but i'm feeling well after the first one. i know a lot of people refer to it as poison here (and being a nurse, i understand that), but i prefer to think of it as my savior (small s, not capitol S-hopefully the Savior is working with me here too).
andreae...if i recall correctly you are up in Montreal? Beautiful city, and the nicest people! We are just a little ways away in the Burlingtin, VT area. We used to go up to Montreal 2-3 times a year before this happened. Now if we go away we are looking for WARMMMM. Bet it's cold up there right now. We got up to a balmy 5 degrees farenheit here today.
Thanks for your care and concern.

    Hi Mary,
It does sound like you have everything under control. I like the idea of making a weekend of your trip for a second opinion. Dana Farber is a great facility; living outside of Boston, I know a lot of people who have turned to them for second opinions or treatment. Good luck to you.
We were in Burlington this summer for a visit to UVM with our son; my nephew is there and loves it. Burlington is a great little town; don't want to influence my son too much, but I wouldn't mind if he ended up there. We could stop and visit on our way to cross country skiing in the Laurentians...another favorite spot!
Continued good luck with your treatments; we are all keeping our fingers crossed for you.
    Regards, Judy

    Dear Mary,

I hope that day one has gone well for you and that your questions were answered by the radiation oncologist.

I pray that all goes well with your treatment and I think it is so wise of you to get a second opinion. Please keep us posted on your progress.

    Thinking of you,

    Kay

    Mary,

Good luck with the second opinion. I will be keeping you in my prayers. Have a great time also as you make your trip. That little Irish pub must be pretty good - I figure that whenever I visit a pub and then leave and can't remember the name, I must have had a good time. Here's to you and SB for enjoying that pub.

Best wishes and keep us posted.
