I wrote a couple weeks ago about calcifications in my breast. I've had a mastectomy on the right side. I had a stereotatic biopsy last week which was benign. Now I have to have a wire biopsy in January where there are clusters of calcifications. They said that where my lump was before (in the other breast) there were calcifications in previous mammograms. So I'm just taking it cool and praying for another benign report. Thanks to everyone who responded. I don't post often but I read it a lot and it has helped me. Many of you are so brave. I pray for all of you this Holiday Season and thereafter. Russie

Russie...I just wanted to pass along my wishes for a painless wire biopsy next month. I too recently underwent a stereotactic biopsy and two wire localizations two months ago, which went well. Although these lead to surgery, the end result was atypical intraductal hyperplasia. So, it is on to tamoxifen (high risk factor...many with BC on mother's side), and due diligence.

Best wishes for a benign reading!

I had the wire biopsy on Tuesday. I was to get the results on Thursday but the doctor hurt her back and won't be in until Monday. This waiting is the pits. I am very sore and bruised, she told my husband that it was a biopsy from hell. Not sure what she meant. Any thoughts about calcifications from anyone. The sterertatic biopsy was benign but I have clusters of calcifications in other areas thats why the wire biopsy was done. Does calcifications become cancer? I'm really worried. Help Russie

Hi Russie! Not all calcifications are cancer and not all necessarily turn to cancer. The MDs can tell by the type of cluster they form whether or not they might be Cancer. I had microcalcifications that turned out to be DCIS which is stage 0 cancer. The treatment I had was lumpectomy but because the margins weren,t clear, I had a mastectomy with immediate reconstruction(Tram Flap). I didn't need any chemo or radiation but if I only had the lumpectomy, I would have had the radiation. This type of cancer is noninvasive(doesn't leave the ducts and go into the lymph nodes) so chemo isn't deemed necessary. The recovery was bearable. I had mine on Sept. 11,2000 and am doing very well doing everything I did before. Good luck. I hope things work out well for you. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions or just need an ear to listen. HUGS!! Cathy
