Hello everyone, I wanted to check in and see if anyone has experienced the same side effects to colostomy/rectal surgery as my mom. On Saturday night, she vomitted 6 times and now feels much better (she had eaten a very large meal on Saturday). This is the third time this has happened in 8 months. Has this ever happened to anyone else? I tend to get paranoid every time she doesn't feel well... Vanessa |

Re: colostomy/surgery side effects
Hey Vanessa,
It might be a blockage of scar tissue that cleared on it's own. Keep in mind - your mom just had a scan and she's clear! As you know, I get paranoid over EVERYTHING too. My mother was telling me yesterday that her legs hurt and I was thinking "Oh my god - it spread to her legs!". I'm NUTS! I would call the doctor just to get a medical opinion but I'm sure its nothing to worry about. If I'm not mistaken, your mom has had three surgeries in less than one year. That must cause a lot of scar tissue. Let me know what the doctor says. I still have to give you the diet book back!

Just the third time in 8 months? She should consider herself lucky. Her system's been through a lot, and the healing process takes a while. I agree with Julie, could have been a blockage, adhesions, a portion of intestine that has diminished peristalsis. or just plain old indigestion. Remember, even with colostomies people get indigestion once in a while, but with us the symptoms might be a bit more severe due the change in the plumbing. If the symptom continues without letup she should get herseelf over to the ER . I always waited too long hoping it would go away, and by the time I got to the ER I was in real pain and hardly able to drive myself there. Dealing with this is a learning curve and can take a while before we get used to the body changes. Carl
