Hi, I am new to CSN, and am not very familiar with chat formats, so I apologize in advance if i inadvertantly break rules or otherwise mess up. My first breast cancer diagnosis came when I was 36Hi, -- I am new to CSN, and am not very familiar with chat formats, so I apologize in advance if i inadvertantly break rules or otherwise mess up. My first breast cancer diagnosis came to me when I was 36. I am now 50, and am delighted to be six years out from my third malignant br ca (breast cancer) tumor. The cancer fight took over my life and consumed most of my deep, life ling dreams: children, a "homeplace" and success in my field, which is highly, highly competitive. One dream that has not been destroyed by cancer is finding and having a permanent relationship with my soul mate. I was extremely fortunate to find the Hubster a year after my first encounter with breast cancer. Although our battle has taken its toll on both of us, our relationship is unwavering. -- I would like to find a pen pal (ascii pal :^) who has a similar cancer history -- multiple occurences, and more than 5 years survivorship. I'll be glad to answer emails from other folks, particularly those who are dealing with the complex medical community in Chicago. I can name doctors and hospitals that nearly killed me, and those that have nourished me. -- Hang in there & Be Tough!!! -- J

    I used to work for an oncology group in the suburbs of Chicago! Hope they weren't the ones who almost killed you.

    Anyway, I bow to your courage and fighting spirit. I love how you said that the cancer fight took over your life and not that the cancer took over your life. We have to fight but we don't have to let it consume our lives. Blessings to you and your husband.

    Sorry to hear about your losing some of your dreams to cancer. For me, having cancer meant not getting all the things I wanted, but still having all the things I needed to be happy. Cherish your spouse, the friends and family that have stood by you and know there are many ways to use your talents. Would you really trade financial or career success for health or love? Congrats on beating breast cancer 3x! You are my hero!

    My name is Kathy and I was first diagnosed at 35. Then in 1999 the breast cancer returned at Stage IV and not in my breast. I had radiation, but opted not to do chemo and went on tamoxifen. I was doing very well and three years into the tamoxifen treatment, that failed and the cancer started growing again. At this time I chose to have my ovaries removed and go on Femara and also enter the breast cancer vaccine trial. I am now 50 years old and doing very well. The tumors have shrunk remarkably and I feel great. I am a very strong believer in God and take lots of vitamins.
