My JP drains are FINALLY gone (yay!) and today was my first day of chemo. I'm tired, but other than that I feel basically ok. I've got a ton of meds to take to control nausea, etc, and so far they seem to be working. Does anyone have tips for making this time (chemo) as pleasant as possible?
thanks!
jill

I do not know what your chemo regimen is but good luck to you. Keep a positive attitude and don't be too brave by not taking the meds. Call with any questions and concerns. Your doctor and the staff will help you. I did good for the first 2 days after chemo and then I got sick. I missed about a week of work after each chemo session. I had a lot of weakness and some nausea. You will need family and friends for support so let them help you. Don't keep them from getting the BLESSING when they can help you in some way. This site is wonderful. There are many very knowledgeable people here and they really do care. Keep us posted on how you are doing. God Bless You!!!! Susan

Keep taking the nausea meds to stay ahead of it. For me, the 3-5 days were the worst, as far as nausea and weakness, so I had to just plan to do next to nothing on those days. Then, the nausea would be gone and I would feel better every day. Also, drink as many fluids as you can. During chemo water didn't taste very good to me. The best drink for me was juice mixed with 7-up. Also, popscicles helped to keep the fluids coming. Good luck! Don't be afraid to ask for different meds if what you've been given doesn't work. There are meds that really help and while you may feel nauseated, you're not as likely to actually get sick. Take care - Diane

My meds worked and only 1 time out of 6 treatments did I get nauseated. My advice to make it more pleasant is to give yourself permission to put yourself first. Pamper yourself and allow others to help you. Be patient this time will pass more quickly than you think. Your strength does return and so does your hair!!! Cold Watermelon tasted real good.

Congatulations on finishing your first chemo, one less to do! Take the medication they tell you too. I was never sick or nauseated once. I always took a friend or family member to sit and chat and look at magazines with. I found it more like a get together or girls day out than chemo. It really helped me get through it. Keep your positive attitute and sense of humor too.

Well my best advice is take your meds BEFORE you need them. It is much easier to Prevent Nausea than it is to STOP it. I learned that the hard way!!!
And don't forget to drink a lot too.

    Good luck!!!!
