Cancer growing on the windpipe.

My wife had her papillary cancer lump removed with her thyroid about 3 weeks ago. It was growing on her windpipe. The surgeon said to do external beam radiation, the endocrinologist said it should be considered, but to get another opinion. I have friends who are docs, so I'm getting names, but I'd like to hear from anyone that was in the same situation (the cancer was growing beyond its usual containment). Did you have external radiation (in addition to the iodine of course).

Thanks.

yes my tumor was located on my windpipe, i did get my thyroid taken out with some lymph tissue over a yr ago. Now it's back and can't be treated with the radioactive iodine cause it won't uptake it, so I have to have more surgery. I think it's a really common spot to have a tumor if you do have thyroid cancer since your thyroid gland lies right on your windpipe. Hope the treatment is going well.

I hope that everything has turned out well with your surgery and treatements. Can you share with me the outcome of your surgery and follow up treatment. My wife has thyroid cancer and had her thyroid removed along with 3 lymph nodes in January 2009. She completed the iodine radiation treatment in March but the follow up full body scan still showed some activity on her voice box. Another iodine radiation treatment is scheduled for August '09. Now, at the end of May, after feeling a lump near the incision on her neck, we have been told that she has a tumor that is wrapped around her windpipe that the iodine radiation treatment did not take care of. We've been referred to a Head & Neck Oncology/Surgery specialist.
