Hi all,

I noticed a post by Hummingbird that she is actively looking at alt. med's in addition to traditional medication. I want to say that I believe 100% in chemo and the other prescribed drugs. I know that they work but because I had a particulary aggressive HER2+ diagnosis in June 2003 I started researching other things to compliment my treatment. I have found a lot of helpful information. Much to do with nutrition and vitamins. One food item that I found and now my healthfood store stocks is Broccosprouts. They were designed by a researcher at John's Hopkins to help prevent or fight different kinds of cancer. I went to JH website and researched this stuff and have been eating it daily. It basically is brocolli sprouts that are 3 days old. All of the good stuff you read about brocolli is condensed in these sprouts. They are very bitter so mostly I juice them or add them to salad. The great news is a couple of weeks ago I found it at a super Wal-Mart of all places in their organic section! The broccosprouts have a high density of indole 3 carbinol which is particulary good with breast cancer. If anyone would like to share notes and findings of different alt. ideas let's all keep in touch. I also drink Essiac tea and take Co-enzyme Q 10. I am not advocating this but at least you should give yourself the knowledge to research it yourself! This is such a great place to share information.

    hi tulipp,
I would be interested in sharing information about alt meds. To tell the truth I have absolutly NO experience of any kind and have only just begun taking vitiams. I am on tamoxifen and the bottle says do not take with any herbal meds, so I have been afriad to try anything.
Have you checked with your doctor before you take anything? I would be interested in learning more about this infomation because of my HER2 3+.
I will start by checking out the JH website like you suggest.
My email is kristen8594@aol.com if you want to share any info I would appreciate it.
    Thanks
    Kris

    Ruth,

Thanks for the info. I was just at my coop this week and got all sorts of goodies(as in foods not meds) I'm slowy researching alternatives with chemo. I purchased a bunch of organic foods and found that I really like them. One of my favorites is the sunflower bread...love it. I bought teas, spices, juices, cereals, etc. I also purchased a book several weeks back that I have enjoyed

Beating Cancer with Nutrition-completely revised by Patrick Quillin. It rates foods and has some good simple recipes. Hope this helps and if anyone does find something extrodinary out there please share.

    Warm Regaqrds,

    Judie

Just a side note: Indole-3-Carbinol comes in a pill form so there is an option to bitter broccosprouts.
For what it's worth I highly recommend Quillen's book Beating Cancer with Nutrition.

I DO NOT suggust this for others but it is what I take: Folic acid, Selenium, Grapeseed Exract, Chlorella,COQ 10, Fish Oil, Ginkgo, Indole 3, Green Tea tablets, as well as three cups of tea, B-12, Glucosamine, MSM, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Alpha Lipoc Acid, calicum and a Multi Vitamin. Been taking this for over 12 months. Husband takes a bit different formula, prostate cancer, Also take Evista[stopped the Tamoxifen] and in my case thyroid replacement. We do not eat sugar, meat or dairy. Will it work I don't know, do I feel like I'm doing something for myself, yes. We feel great, skin and hair are excellent. My GP always says, you are looking great. I don't tell either Dr what we are doing as I don't really want to hear their opinions as so little research is done on this type of life style that it would only be a guess anyhow. I also in our daily fruit drink add barly grass jucie and Noni jucie. I don't think Noni is probably worth the money but like the taste it adds to the other berries and banana that I use. I do still have aches and pains and probably always will but otherwise tests are coming back fine. Linda
