I think the best thing a nurse can do is show compassion for the patient. Let the patient and his or her family know you care. Most nurses are wonderful. I remember one expecially when my husband was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I asked her what signs to look out for and she explained it all to me because she had been through it with her father. She actually held my hand and cried with me. This was one very special nurse.
