Hi. I'm a 1.5 yr survivor. I had a CT w/contrast done the other day because of some problems I've been having with pains and aches. The area where the pains and aches occur looked ok but they did find a 2.9 cm cyst on my left ovary. I had a partial hysterectomy 12 yrs ago and only have the tubes and ovaries now. The doc said we'll watch this cyst and recheck it in about 6 weeks. I went for a sonogram yesterday to check my liver and gull bladder. My question is is waiting and watching to see if the cyst gets small or goes away the norm for someone who has had breast cancer as recently as 7/02? I'm worried about it. I've never had a cyst before on the ovaries or anywhere else. I'm 47. Thanks

I think its very normal. I've had several cysts and when they check again in 6 weeks they're gone. You wouldn't want to have to undergo surgery if they are going to dissolve anyway. When you go back in 6 weeks they will either be gone, almost gone or larger. If they are larger, they will probably do a biopsy or remove them. I'm not a doctor, but not having to undergo unneccessary surgery is good. So, I'd recommend mediation, prayer and doing things that keep you from focusing on the cyst so the 6 weeks passes fast. Let us know what happens. You're in my prayers. Sandi

I don't know, but after having BC, if they found a cyst on my ovaries, they'd be gone in a heartbeat! Or at the very least biopsey'd. At 47 with already having had a histerectomy I would vote for the ovaries out. But that's just me! good Luck, Beth

You need to ask your doctor but my understanding is that they can tell the difference on the ovaries if it is a cyst or a mass. That is what I was told when I had a cyst on my ovary. They rechecked mine in 2 months and it was gone. A cyst is filled with liquid so I was told they could tell the difference.
