mom was diagnosed w/ rectum cancer march of 2002. she went through chemo and radiation (before surgery) for 6 mos. on and off. a total of 4 chemo treatments for 2 hrs a piece and she can't remember how many treatments of radiation. too many to count. at first her family doctor told her she had a hemeroid. that lasted 3 mos. w going through alot of preperation h and somekind of treatment for hemeroids from the dr. which didn't work. she finally went to a specialist and was told she had a tumor on her sphinkter (sp) muscle the size of a quarter. at that point they started radiation and chemo. this all started in march 2002 and in october 2002 she was told the tumor was gone. thank heavens she didn't loose any hair. although she was seriously burned from the radiation. then in november of 2002 just 1 month later she had a checkup and the cancer was back. they could't do anymore treatment so the decided to do a permanent colostomy. they removed her rectum and 12 inches of her colon. today she is doing great except for the phantom pains and buring sensation in her vagina. that is what the # one question is . does anyone have a cure for the burning she is experiencing in her vaginal area? by the way to get a little more detailed she went to a gyno to see if maybe there was an infection about 6 mos ago. she did have a yeast infection which was cured through antibiotics. however the weird pain and burnung, she can't explain, never has went away. also the gyno told her, her uterus is gone. it was burned w/ the radiation. if anyone is experiencing the same symtoms please let us know. alot of the symtoms are gross, but she's still alive. one day when i'm her age scientists' will look back and see that people were tortured w/ the procedures to clear up cancer. by the way i'm 25 years old and my mother is 49. thanx for reading.

    joski -

Keep checking back, one of our group - "andreae" - may be able to give you and your mom a lot of good insight. There are a lot of women here who have been through a lot with rectal cancer, but I believe andreae could definitely help. She's out of town right now galloping around the wild west. Kicking up her spurs and raising hel... heck.

You are doing your mom a great service by coming to this site and seeking out information for her. She's lucky to have you helping her.

    Best regards for continued health.

I think cancer cures are multi-sided. You have to do everything, and not just one thing, whether it's chemo, nutrition or other.

I was diagnosed June of 2002,had cemo and radiation, surgery in oct.2002,in which they removed my rectum and 2ft of my colon,Now have permanent colostomy,Anyway I'm having kinda the same problem. I have had like 5 UTI and in Oct 03
I had a blocked and infected kidney. Now i have a stent in my urator of my right kidney I still have burning in my vagina to.my drs tell me drink more water but I feel if i drink anymore i'll float away, anyway has she tried any over counter remedy for vaginal burning like vagisil that might work . I think if it is realy irritating her she should talk to her doctor about it.Cuz in my case it was a kidney problem u never know what it is till you get everything checked.Has she had any urine tests.because not everything that causes vaginal burning can be seen by a gyno exam she should have urine test if she hasn't yet.hope this helped I know its long winded but I'm new here so maybe I'll get better when I'm here longer.
