My husband was recently diagnosed with brain tumor & considering taking part in either of two clinical trials. One is radiation w/Tamoxifen drug & the other one is 3-diminsional conformal radiation w/BCNU chemotherapy. Has anyone had any experience with either of these treatments or know of someone who has?

My husband just finished phase 3 of CCNU chemo, (CCNU, procarbazine, vincristin) it did not seem to be doing the job. He was very sick and weak, however kept going to work every day. Last night he started a new regime of temozolomide, which requires 5 days on of oral medication, and 23 days off. His Dr. feels he may have to be on this for at least 9 months. We are hoping for the best. This med is given to patients with previous tumors and or surgery that have recurred or are progressive. Thank scares me but I hope that this med works. My husband is 39 years old and had his first surgery/tumor at 28 years old. I would love to hear from others experiencing this same ordeal.

From S. Koy again, I neglected to mention that my husband's first treatment was radiation only, so the chemo is our option now, with possible limited radiation if needed.

Suekoy, I have an oligodendroglioma/mixed astrocytoma. I used Temozolomide for 4 1/2 months on a phase II clinical trial that required dosing of 7 days on and 7 days off. My tumor remained stable. I developed lung side-effects that caused us to stop the chemo, but I would like you to remember that my dosage was more than twice what your husband will receive. The dose you mention is that recommended in the drug insert literature. I then received 7 weeks of radiation, and the tumor is still stable. God's blessings to you and your husband.
