Hello Fluffy. There are other posts about the TRAM flap reconstruction. Read those for more indepth. As for myself, I had my TRAM in February of this year. I find it hard to come up straight from a lying down position. I also feel like I am wearing a girdle a lot of the time, not always. That's from the mesh that is used to keep you from getting hernias. It's a very hard operation, but I would do it again in a heart beat. Good luck, and keep us posted. Jane

Hi! I'm Cathy. I had a Tram flap in Sept. I did very well following surgery. Played tennis within 2 mos, Returned to work after 7 weeks. I do always feel my stomach especially if I do physical activities. I have been going for Physical Therapy to regain my strength and flexibility and feel this has helped me greatly.(I am a Physical Therapist in a nursing home) Good luck to you. Think positively. You'll do just fine. You can e-mail me directly if you have any questions.RPT1206@aol.com

May i ask what type of reconstruction you had and if you opted to reconstruct both breasts. I had a mastectomy on the right breast with a tissue expander and am finalizing that breast reconstruction on Feb 2. I have the option of uplifting my left breast but really dont want more scars to a natural breast. Any input would help. Thanks

    irishmum,
This thread began in 2000 and it came to the current because we had someone posting on our site and brought some of the older threads forward.

This is a reminder to all to check the date of the first post before posting a reply unless it is really something you want answers for-or just start a new thread and someone on the board can answer your questions.

Hi, I've recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and will be having a mastectomy.  67 years old and trying to decide if I want an implant or not.  Right now I am leaning to not doing that and going with a prosthesis.  Looking to hear negatives/positives about both.

You and I are in similar situations, similar age, and looking for similar answers.  I was leaning toward an implant reconstruction with a lift of the other brest for symmatry, but now I wonder how the implant side will  age verses my natural breast.  I also wonder how weight gain/loss will affect the the reconstructed site.  Are these concerns answerable? Or should I go with prosthesis?  I have asked this question of a weight site I am on, as I have recently lost a significant amount, but I also plan to visit a  shop that specializes in mastectomy needs.
