Myths Mythin the Phacts
They once reported that Coca Cola killed the aids virus.
And of course, it really did...... in the test-tube. Drinking gallons
of soda wasn't going to do a thing; and everything, including the air,
can kill the aids virus...
With cancer. and thanks to the real fear of dying, there are
brazillions of "remedies" out there. Some that might have some
merit, and others telling us to ingest the undigestible.
The fact is, that there are certain percentages of cancer victims
that will survive after surgery, even if they do nothing at all.
Try to keep that fact in mind, regardless if it's chemo or apricot
seeds, or peach dander.
But of course, there really are good alternatives to chemotherapy and
radiation that will indeed actually kill cancer cells.
The big problem, is trying to figure out what is, and what ain't.
Apricot pits are on my "ain't list".
A science that's thousands of years old and continues to be practiced
in this day and age, in hospitals of other countries, isn't on my "ain't list".
But aside from that, anything that can improve your immune system's
response and ability to attack what doesn't belong, is an absolutely
good thing. If it doesn't have any side effects and can improve your
health, how can it be bad?
Can an alternative kill cancer cells directly? Some can, some can't.
Some only help your immune system do it's job better.....
And some times, that's really all it takes!
Read, read and read, and always, always, always question what
you read. When your inner instincts tell you it's right, it's usually right.
And if it sounds like a scam, it usually is.
Better health by tomorrow, or else.

Apricot kernels
I know somebody who swears by them as well. It's the laetril that's supposed to be contained within the bitter apricot kernels. Since I've tried just about everything, I tried these as well! I did have a recurrence while taking them, so they certainly didn't appear to have done anything positive for me! The friend who swears by them and has been taking them for years has prostate cancer.

Laetrile is the Pits...
I remember when that came out in the 70's as the miracle cure for cancer.
I think that was before shark cartilage came out as the next miracle cure. The theory was that sharks don't get cancer. They also don't get athlete's foot. Can they cure that too?
I've been hanging apricot pits from my rear view mirror to prevent running into an elephant while driving. It's worked, I haven't hit an elephant in over 35 years!

If ANYONE offers a guaranteed miracle cure for cancer, run the other way. There are no guarantees in life except that one day we will all die from something. You can increase or decrease your life expectancy with choices we each make in life and in dealing with disease.0 -

Phil, this is an international forum that finds it's way into pretty remote
areas of the world!
I hope you realize that thanks to your post, there are probably 2000
Zhihuwandi tribe members with apricot pits hanging from their earlobes!

My son's ex-girlfriend gave me a bag (she was a nutrition major in school). They do have some good things about them, but it seems more in a general health way. They, at least the ones I ate, where not bitter at all, kind of sweet in fact and a bit chewy. Mine where Organic Hunza Apricot Kernels.0 -

The point was that it would take YEARS for it to get approved if it was done at all.

It is not so much a matter of reputation and character assassination as it is of evidence and analysis. Barrett does give references for a number of his factual assertions at the end of his article.

I remember as a juror, being instructed that if a witness is found
to be lying about one thing, everything that witness says, can
be disregarded.
It's actually instinctual common sense at it's best.
This "Stephen Barrett, MD" has been proven to be disingenuous
at best, and a liar at least.
The facts about "Stephen Barrett, MD" should be more than enough
to cause serious doubt regarding anything he has had to say.
There are a whole ton of pixles out there, with serious data
about the alternatives. It takes a lot to filter through it all, but
one has to do what's best to do, and that includes closely
examining chemotherapy's value.
I read about "Stephen Barrett, MD" a long, long time ago, well
before I knew about TCM, and while still using western medicine.
I was trying to help my wife find new medicines for her RA,
and using sites like "quackwatch" to filter out scam garbage.
I learned rather quickly about "Stephen Barrett, MD" and his
history; dropping out of medicine and starting web sites to
attack alternatives. He gives seminars and talks and charges
well for that. He doesn't mention that he was forced out of
practice, however....
Live, learn, and vomit.

I like to check out domain names too at times. It can tell you a lot about the "source". Some people at times think that since it's on the internet it must be true. ANYBODY can make an website and make things look believable.0 -

Scientists' proposals are not subject to judgment by a jury. Scientific theories are not subject to human-made laws and your experience as a juror is irrelevant. You're just in the wrong ballpark. Scientists need not be persons of good character -- the correctness of what they say is not judged by their reputation.0 -

"Stephen Barrett, MD" isn't a "scientist", never had an education
regarding the various fields of expertise he claimed to provide
a legal opinion for, etc etc.... ad infinitum..
I'd choose another individual, if I were trying to substantiate
my opinion against "alternative medicine".
If it walks like a duck and QUACKS like a duck....

I think apricot pits migh have small amounts of cyanide in them
Hi,
Years ago I heard a joke about eating apricot pits as a cure to depression. The punch line was, 'Apricot seeds have cyanide in them'. I don't know if they really do or if it was just a dumb joke. But I sure wouldn't eat a lot of them before investigating further.

that's true...and that's exactly why "B17" "Laetril" "Amygdalin" they say supposed to work for cancer cells. Because they are in a way that the cyanide group is tied to a sugar molecule. Cancer cells needs sugar to grow (so does others) but cancer cells have a unique enzyme that healthy cells don't, and with that enzyme they can cleave off the cyanide group and as it gets released it kills the cancer cells. Healthy cells cannot cut this sugar molecule, so cyanide will not get released...but that's all I know about this...0
