Dry Scalp - Any Suggestions

OK - I admit that in the scope of things that we have to deal with, this is low on the totem pole. But for some reason, aside from the baldness and the fact that only my gray/white hairs pop out between treatments (my brown hair is apparently ducking for cover), the dry scalp just drives me nuts.
I have tried conditioner on my scalp, Keri lotion, Nioxen scal treatment. I even tried my husband's aloe shaving gel because my scalp was soft and smooth after he last shaved me two weeks ago. has anyone found anything that worked??

What are you washing your scalp with?
Maybe whatever you're washing with is too harsh. (Does a bald head really need to be shampooed, I wonder?) I have only a bit of stubble left, but I still wash my head briefly with the sensitive-scalp shampoo I used before chemo. Afterward, I do pat face lotion on it. Is the shaving just too harsh, even using the gel? Also, could a scarf, hat or wig be irritating it?0 -
Bumping up this thread for "Itchy Head"
Hope this helps0 -
Just went to a "Look Good
Just went to a "Look Good Feel Better" meeting last week. A hair specialist said that when you wash your head always use a mild shampoo and conditioner. She said that shampoo alone is too drying. I wonder if a conditioner or lotion with shea butter would help? Also, you might call your hospital and see if they know of scalp/hair specialist to help.0 -

patients who have lost their hair after I had a really nasty bout with Folliculitis. It's called: Alra - Mild Conditioning Shampoo. It contains aloe veral gel, panthenol and oil of rosemary. It's both a shampoo and conditioner and I never had a bit of trouble with my scalp afterwards. My onc had said to get a mild baby shampoo but not "no tears" cause the stuff in no tears that makes it no tears would be harse. But I used Dove soap until the infection.
This isn't a small thing, it's just another thing we have to deal with...in a loooooong line of irritating, icky things along with everything else. Sometime it seemed it would never end. Five months later it still goes on and I am losing eyebrows and lashes for a second time but I learned (on this board) this is normal and already the eyelashes are coming back as the old ones are still coming out. What a hoot.
Hope you get some relief with all of the good suggestions from your pink sisters.
Hugs, Judy :-)0
