EBRT IMRT Ultra Soundherkw said:I had 9 weeks of Intensity
I had 9 weeks of Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) in Florida. The only side effect I am having is
fatigue, but am told it will go away in 2-6 weeks.

Aloha herkw,
Yes. It does take time to recover your energy. We had an 85 mile round trip to the radiation oncology center. I drove the first two weeks. The third and remaining weeks, my wife drove. I had some complications and wanted to quit after the third week. Two months after finishing EBRT I was back on my bicycle and hiking again. You will make it. I'm a year out. Still have some problems with my gut, but seem to be getting better.

Thanks JoeMac.. I just can't believe how tired I get. The early mornings are ok, but about 11am it just hits me like a ton of bricks. Very fatigued. My last treatment was last Wednesday the 12th. All blood tests, like red bllod cell count were normal. Once again thanks for the info and keep in touch if you can think of anything else I have to look forward to.

Aloha Herkw,
There are some side effects that take a year to showup after EBRT. If you go to
www.yananow.net
you can read a lot of different stories about recovering from EBRT/IMRT. I had some problems from the ADT 3 month shots and some radiation damage to the rectum.
I might also suggest that you and your partner/spouse get a mental checkup. There is a terrific amount of anxiety/depression associated with PC. It was about 1 year before it cought up to us, and I'm told that it will take a year of drugs & therapy to recover.
My e-mail is at the above site if you want to talk more.
Most of my e-mails to my PCP over the past year contained the words "I am so tired" but, no one could help or answer as to what was going on. I suspect that the ADT treatment contributed a lot to being tired no mater how much I exercised.

Hi JoeMac:
Thanks for your valuable input. I am about to go into EBRT for 36 treatments. I had a RP 2.5 yrs ago and now the cancer is creeping up again. Mentally I'm just bummed out. I'm very active, working out 3x week, skiing, kayaking etc. I'm 74 yrs old and feel like 50. Would it be a good idea to go nuts with work outs before starting the treatment to get as strong as possible? Any thoughts you might have to help me slay this beast would be most appreciated. I thought about doing nothing but the risk/reward ratio is a bit scary. What do you think?
Thanks and all my good wishes go to to you on my favorite island.
Best.
Rolf.

normal
what you discribed sounds normal. when i had my radiation i was told to drink a lot of water to help flush the radiation out of the body. i was drinking over 120 oz a day of water, tea and gator aid. you do need to eat even when you don't feel like it. there were many days when i forced myself to eat. much to the disapproval of the wife, even it was just ice cream and pie. my diet included plenty of protein (meat beans tofu ect ect)and protein drinks when i had trouble with the solid foods. you need to eat and drink to help the body to rebuild and survive this. don't give up the mental fight now that you have made it through the radiation. it can be tough, but you can do this. do you need a diet plan? prayer and blessings. tony0
