PET Scan results wasn't what I expected
I'm new to this board and hoping to hear others experiences.
I recently had a PET Scan for Stage III Vulvar Cancer. I had finished my treatments and had a biopsy that showed no evidence of malignacy. However the PET Scan found 1 small nodule was discovered in my upper right lung but everything else is clear.
My Doctor said that he doesn't believe that the cancer metastasized because there is only 1 nodule, but he wants to biopsy it/remove it and it if is cancer I'm not going to require any chemo or radiation.
Has anyone else experienced this?
I've alway tried to maintain a good attitude but this kind of set me back.

Hi jenny
im sorry that youHi jenny
im sorry that you are having this worry. I was dx'd 11/2011 with cervical cancer, stage 2a. I had rad hyst, chemo, chemo/ radiation and more chemo. Pet/ct after treatment was all clear except a single pulmonary nodule in upper right lobe. Onc thought it was from a recent cold. Watched it. 2 months later it was considered stable. 2 more months later it grew and so had a VATS wedge resection. Turned out a met. I had another met in abdomen at same time. That was in dec 2012. Did some more chemo and rads and finished in may 2013. I've been NED since.
i hope this turns out yo be nothing for you. If it is a met, know that it can still be best.
love, light and peace to you.

Thank you for your words of encouragment.
My Dad died of lung cancer (smoker) and I am a former smoker so being told that really set me back (I don't know why I'm surprised you take that gamble when you smoke). Today I am having a needle biopsy and the Dr. believes that he can remove the nodule. I'm still worred but thankful that if it is cancer it was caught early and if the nodule can be removed, nothing more will be done.
Saying prayers and hoping for positive results!

How large is the nodule? Best wishes for a successful procedure. Please know that no one deserves cancer, smoker or no. 80% of smokers never get a cancer- although it is a risk factor in most cancers including breast cancer.

I misunderstood my doctor when he initially spoke to me. On the day of the biopsy, another Doctor who performed it said that the nodule was very small and he hoped to be able to get a sample (which he did). He also told me that he doesn't believe it is malignant because of the shape and size. Unfortunately, my lung tried to collapse so a 3 hour start to finish procedure ended up close to 8 hours with a tube inserted and a possible hospital stay (I did get to go home). Yesterday the tube was removed and today I feel great.
Thank you for your words about guilt feelings regarding my smoking. I didn't know the stats regarding smokers getting cancer but I have quit and the Doctor assured me that my lungs didn't look like smokers lungs so I felt better.
Keeping fingers crossed for a good outcome!

Glad it's over and I hope it proves benign. Hang in there.
