    • Coughing At Night

    I was diagnosed with vocal cord cancer in 1993 and had six weeks of radiation therapy and have been cancer free. My voice is very hoarse still but I can talk and feel well and count my blessings.

    I still cough , most of the night. My throat has always been very dry since the radiation treatment and I get little like "b b's " of hard phlegm in my throat and once those come up my breathing is better and my cough is better although still persistent.

    I was wondering if there were anything other than, water, sitting up in bed, etc. that can help with this? I don't like medicines but would like to sleep all night once in a while.

      First Welcome to CSN my friend, glad to have you here. What I have been doing for the passed few years is using Stoppers 4 dry mouth spray at night, and it has really helped me a lot.

      i was diagnosed scc in 1996, 38 radiation treatments, chemo and surgery. it was 5 golf ball sized nodes wrapped around my carroid. my voice is very hoarse and alot of the time just gone. i too cough alot but alot went away when i started to use Stoppers4 mouth spray for dry mouth as i get in bed and then i force myself to lay on my side. not sure which one helped the most but i know if i do not do one or the other i cough more.

      Hi Gone, always great to hear from a long term survivor, but ten years is a long time to cough. The good answer has already been taken, but I'll just mention trying a humidifier in your room at night if you haven't before.

      Not sure who said it,
      but a CPAP machine that sends a fine mist out all night was their answer. If you have a sleep problem, lack of due to coughing, you may want to go the Cpap route....
      Don't know if it works, but someone was tauting it a few weeks ago..

      P.s. I too use the Stoppers 4 at night. I get 4 bottles for $25.00 with free delivery. Cheap for something that works
