My nana's cancer story

I don't think I've shared this on here before but it gives me encouragement to fight the battle and I hope it will for all of you as well.

My nana was diagnosed with colon cancer in the 1950s when she was in her fifties. She had surgery to remove it and received a colonoscopy. I don't know if she would have had chemo as it was in it's infancy at that time. She eventually passed away at 84 years of age and not from cancer. Her kidneys had given out, I'm not sure exactly what happened. She'd recently come back from a long trip to Australia and was one of the healthiest people I know. She had endless energy and loved hiking. She was still so healthy at 84 that they wanted to give her a kidney transplant as she was deemed healthy enough. She refused it and told them to give it to a young person. 

So thirty plus years after colon cancer my nana passed away and had been healthy ever since her surgery and didn't die of cancer. When I get scared or down about the whole thing I think of her and tell myself that I can do this. I hope this will bring hope and strength to you as well. For the record, I'm adopted so my cancer wasn't inherited from her.

The part where she insisted that a kidney she could have had, be given to a younger person just brought tears to my eyes.  What a wonderful hero of a Grandma you had.  Thanks for the story I loved it.
