Scan report is in, and it's not good...
Hi Ladies,
I had my scans this morning. My wonderful dr. called me with the results this afternoon. First of all, I now have brain mets. This showed up in the lower part of the brain. He is starting me on steroids tomorrow. He hopes by next week to have an MRI and set me up with the radiation dr. I had an MRI in June was normal. He says this is no emergency, but we gotta get it taken care of now. He said probably 2 weeks of radiation.
He said there was some fluid around my heart. He said it could be nothing, but he's sending me for an echo-cardiogram. He said worst possible scenario would be to drain the fluid.
I now also need a stent in my left kidney. That will be placed in when I have the right one replaced Feb. 16.
On a bright note, although there are a few more spots in my liver, January 5 liver function labs showed normal function. He said we would resume chemo after I complete all radiation. He said the liver is okay right now.
Yes, I am VERY scared. My sister and some friends have both been by today. That has been so helpful.
Anyone have any experiences with any of these? My dr. said he is not giving up on me. He said I can still do this!!
Thanks,
Carla

Carla:So sorry you didn't
Carla:
So sorry you didn't get better news, but it seems that your doctor is right on it.
Regarding your kidney stent. Do you already have one? I have one in my left kidney which I need replaced every 3 months. I am worried because I think my right kidney is showing the very vague signs thata my left kidney did before the stent. Also, my recent blood tests indicate my creatinine levels (1.05) have once again increased and my GFR level is 60. I get my replacement stent on February 4th. I then will get a PET scan at the end of February/beginning of March.
So is it my undertanding that you will have a stent for both kidneys?
Anyway, Carla, I am sending you hugs. I am glad you had your sister and some friends over.
My best to you.
Kathy

Keep on
I am sorry the news wasn't what we wanted. But the fact that your doctor is up-beat is good. There's a lot in that CT report, and you've gotta just tackle it one by one. It is a lot to process. I don't have experience with radiation or pericardial fluid or brain mets. My liver is stable. But I was coming on the board tonight to see who could tell me about stents! Looks like I'll be getting one next week. So I don't have anything to share but my prayers and good wishes! I'm not giving up on you either!

Carla, I have not yad a recurrence yet (thank God)! My feelings on all oif this are: YES We hope & pray fo r good news with this cancer fight - and oour being monitored is a blessing in disguise if we have a recurrence it is usually caught comparatively early --we are in the cancer system SO tx should be prettty quick.
ALSO as disheartening it is to hear thye bad info - you can't fight the enemy you don't know. whether you know iior not the cancer & related priblems are there - we can't change that -if we know what's going on -- we at least have a fighting chance to ki lsome cancer cells. doubt if i'd be as loigical if/when I have my first recurrance. keep up the good figt sounds likeyourddoc is a sharp "take charge" type & you are in god hands.
may GoGodbles s& keep you & your family as you get over this hurdle.
