Brain MRI, Stress test passed--it's a go for IL2
Got a call from the doctor today and my brain MRI from Monday was clear and I did OK on the stress test too. It bothered me to find out that my gfr was 45 which I guess means my one kidney isn't doing such a great job, but the doc says he has taken that into account.
Also on Smart Patients I got a study mailed to me about a study in the UK which tried to predict characteristics of patients who are more likely to respond to IL2. Using screening criteria they were able to more than double the percentage of durable responses.
It seems like I do fit in some of the favorable categories although a lot had to do with very specific histological features of the primary tumor--information that is not on the pathology report I have.

Remember what I said. There is nothing to it. As easy as taking aspirin. Like being on vacation. Respond well.
Great to know that right now I'm only dealing with the four small lung mets and grateful that I am healthy enough for this therapy. Now if we just dig out of the foot and a half of snow we are expecting in the next 24 hours ...
Time to stop off to buy beer and soft drinks on the way home. Already have milk and baked a loaf of bread last night.

Got a bread machine for Xmas. Today was spent shoveling a foot of snow from ou large driveway. I guess I really shouldn't take NSAIDS so I will treat my sore muscles with liquid bread--a nice extra IPA.

I know its a tad early to drop this advice on you, but still: If the IL-2 works but "only" works partially by reducing your number of mets to 1-2, make bloody sure that the evaluation of whether or not the remaining lung mets are operable is done by a really experienced thorasic surgeon. It is an extremely skill and experience based call.
IL-2 treatment followed by surgical resection of especially remaining lung mets holds very favorable odds for long time durable response, you want to make sure that option doesnt just slide by you (if it becomes relevant).

Thaxter,
It's feels good to get those tests behind you, doesn't it? Now you can ease in to the IL2 treatment. If I can do it, anybdy can. Good luck to you!

Choose your meals carefully. I could only eat at the hospital before my treatments started and once or twice(I don't remember) after. Anyway, I chose things I liked. They were prepared well and I should have enjoyed them. However, I can no longer eat those foods. The sight and smell turn my stomach now. All I percieve is the hospital smell that just won't go away. I get that bad smell perception even if I just think about it. Make us proud Thax.
