Allianz Travel Insurance doesn't pay trip cancellation for cancer
Just wanted to post a note to all who have cancer and may be traveling. I bought travel insurance through Allianz via United Airlines in January. A few weeks later during a scope for gallstones, doctors found a pancreatic cancerous tumor that required immediate surgery. I cancelled my trip and had Whipple surgery performed (major, rough operation and recovery). I am still recovering now, and just found out Allianz Travel has denied my travel insurance claim because they said their "policy" states that the gallstones were a "symptom" of the pancreatic cancer and they consider it a preexisting condition when I bought the travel insurance.
I spoke with a claims adjuster and a sr. claims adjuster and both gave me the "policy" answer. Basically they said if I had been treated for anything that could have possibly been related to the cancer, whether the doctors or myself knew I had cancer or not, their rules and "policy" state they can not accept the claim.
Everyone with cancer or seeking any treatment should think twice before purchasing this travel insurance. I can't believe Allianz can so easily decieve and deny a claim of a healthy 37-year-old who had to have life-saving surgery for an unkown pancreatic tumor.
Buyer beware!
