I'm really confused about what is going on

I have been having pain in my ankle for a while. During the process of treating it I went to my general doctor who eventually sent me to a podiatrist who did an MRI. The podiatrist called me today and said the MRI showed a "subcortical lesion" on my ankle bone and that she was referring me to an orthopedic oncologist about "the tumor". I was in shock so I didn't really ask any questions, I just thanked her and hung up. It's been a few hours and I've tried to call the office back but they haven't returned my calls. I tried to use Google but I can't find any information about what she's talking about and I don't understand what is happening to me. I go to the oncologist this week but I don't know what to expect at this appointment. I tried to Google things but all the things said they were referred to an oncologist with a "cancer diagnosis" but I don't think I have any kind of diagnosis, I just have some MRI thing that I can't even find information on. Can anyone help me? I just want something to read so I know what is going on.

First of all.. it's not cancer until they do a biopsy. I am surprised that they are sending you to an oncologist before having any biopsy done. I am hoping it omes back negative for cancer.
Thank you for responding. I was confused because I do not have a diagnosis yet. I guess the oncologist will probably talk to me about more testing then? This whole process is new to me. I'm very nervous about what might happen.0
