Saundra's in the hospital

This is Joe, Saundra's husband. She is now at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas with a bowel obstruction -- an angry tumor about grapefruit size that appeared quickly over the last two months (when she had colostomy surgery. It's inoperable. Doctors here are considering doing a carboplatin/taxlol combination, which she responded very well to a couple of years ago. She developed an allergy to these drugs, but docs here say it can be administered slowly (24 hours) while she's in the hospital.

Her nutrition will now have to be IV NPT infusion.

We know this is her best and only shot at prolonging her life. Number one on her 'bucket list' is to have a reunion with our 3 kids and 6 grandkids the 2nd week in July. We're hopeful that we can make it.

We're sending prayers and thoughts for Bonnie, reading her CaringBridge posts whenever the appear. My laptop doesn't like Baylor's wireless, so I go across the street to McDonalds to read and post.

To husbands who are caregivers: remember, your number one job is to take care of your wife. All else is secondary. And I can truly relate to what you guys are feeling and dealing with. God bless.

Joe

    Thinking of you both
    Hi Joe,
It is so thoughtful of you to post, given your current situation. This is such sad news. As you know, Saundra is such a special part of this board. 'Hoping that the carbo will work and give her some relief. Bowel obstructions are rough, been there, but was able to have mine repaired.
'Keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers, Ginny

I'm so sorry to hear of this
I'm so sorry to hear of this occurring so soon after her surgery. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Saundra has been such a wonderful resource and supportive person here -- she's 'family' here as well. And she is so lucky to have you Joe. Take care, Annie

Hugs to you both. I see how my husband quietly suffers, and the sadness on his face when he thinks I'm not looking breaks my heart. I am so glad that Saundra has you. You are both in my prayers.

    So sorry,
Joe, to hear about Saundra. Is she in any kind of pain from the obstruction? Is there any possibility of radiation? Praying for peace and strength for both of you in this storm. Keep us posted, when you have a chance.
    Love to both of you,

    prayers and even more prayers
Dearest Joe, thank you for so much for taking the time to let us know. Saundra is always in my prayers but now I know where specifically to focus them. The docs are right I went in and got desentized over a 24 hour period and did not react. So praying the combo kicks the cancer's butt or at least barricades it for awhile. I think my last note to Saundra was singing praise to the lord ... I still am... because He made sure she got to the hospital in time.

In my heart I really feel she will make the reunion with the kids, but if the docs have second thoughts...move it up, that is what I would do anyway or my kids would do.

Thanks for checking on me also, Saundra and you are very special to me and in all the ups and downs I always see and hear the Lord shining and speaking through you both.

I wish more husbands came here, wish they could read your post and respond. I think we all need to hear your words but the caregivers even more. It has to be much harder on the caregivers than us or that is what I have always felt.

Tell Saundra she has the whole teal community lifting her up in prayer, we are each carrying her through this hurrdle..along with all the teal angels that are at her side.

    My prayers
Stil somewhat new to the board, but always gravitate to Saundras words of advice and encouragement. My prayers go out to both of you and your family. The reunion sounds like just what the doctor ordered... Prayers that the slow crab/taxol will do the trick for the time being and get you two united with your family. It is an obscene disease. Karen

My heart goes out to you
My heart goes out to you Joe. I was priviledged to witness my parents love for each other during my mum's illness. My dad never left her side and took are of her right up until the end. I was so happy that they were able have that time together right up until the end. Much love to you both and I will be thinking about you often.
